A Taste of Malaysia in the Sky: Element Kuala Lumpur’s ‘Locally-Tea Bites’ Afternoon Tea is a Must-Experience Culinary Celebration

June 5, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

In celebration of International Tea Day, Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur invites guests on an unforgettable gastronomic adventure with its latest creation — Locally-Tea Bites. This isn’t just another afternoon tea — it’s a stunning homage to Malaysian heritage, cleverly reimagined and beautifully presented with an air of whimsy and sophistication.

Hosted at TRACE Restaurant & Bar on Level 40, this one-of-a-kind experience marries breathtaking skyline views with a journey of flavours that speak to the heart and soul of Malaysia. But what truly sets Locally-Tea Bites apart is its storytelling — each tier of the carefully curated bamboo basket is a chapter, each bite a tribute to familiar tastes transformed with artistic flair.

The three-tiered bamboo basket is a conversation starter in itself — rustic yet elegant, it sets the tone for what’s to come. Upon unwrapping the layers, diners are welcomed into a delightful progression of local favourites elevated to fine dining standards.

The Chilled Delights open the journey with a trio that is as vibrant as it is flavourful: the Salmon Gravlax with Cream Cheese Tart offers a Nordic nod with a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth finish; the Chicken Rendang & Cheese Brioche Bite is an inventive fusion of savoury and sweet; and the Grilled Sicilian Prawn with Harum Manis Mango Salsa is a tropical delight that balances heat and freshness with finesse.

The Warm & Comforting tier takes a bolder turn with Otak-Otak Mousse bathed in Thai Green Curry Sauce, an explosion of spice and smooth texture that lingers beautifully. The Deconstructed Chicken Drumette with Hot Sauce brings a playful twist to a classic, while the Mini Vegetable Pot Pie is deeply satisfying — buttery, flaky, and comforting to the last bite. We love how they made it and every item is beautifully presented making it so insta-friendly and yet delicious

Then comes the finale — Sweet Temptations — which is where the pastry team truly shines. The Raspberry Lychee Mousse is delicately tart and floral, a romantic flavour profile that lingers on the tongue. The Chilled Coconut with Gula Melaka Pearls is pure nostalgia in a cup, and the Craquelin Jackfruit Puff brings a surprising burst of tropical sweetness with refined technique. Rounding off the tier are the Bandung Layer Cake, with its pretty pink hue and fragrant rose flavour, and the Chocolate Indulgence Tart, which is rich, velvety, and simply divine.

Of course, no afternoon tea is complete without a pot of premium tea — and here, Dilmah’s finest blends are served to complement the variety of flavours. Whether you prefer something floral, robust, or herbal, the pairing elevates each bite to new heights.

From presentation to palate, Locally-Tea Bites is a five-star showcase of culinary creativity and cultural reverence. It captures what makes Malaysian food so beloved — the layers, the heritage, the warmth.
