A Taste of Comfort: Cantonese Classics and Timeless Egg Tarts at Tasteful Kitchen, Mont Kiara

January 25, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

In a dining landscape often driven by trends and theatrics, there is enduring appeal in restaurants that quietly focus on what matters most: flavour, consistency, and comfort. Tasteful Kitchen, located at 163 Sunway Mont Kiara, exemplifies this approach with a menu rooted in classic Cantonese cooking — honest, nourishing dishes prepared with care and an evident respect for tradition.

From its warming bowls of porridge to its expertly roasted goose and much-talked-about egg tarts, Tasteful Kitchen has become a favourite among diners seeking dependable Cantonese fare without unnecessary embellishment.

Porridge That Soothes and Satisfies

At the heart of the menu is the Porridge with King Prawns (RM59.80++), a dish that reflects the kitchen’s patient, methodical cooking style. The rice is slow-cooked until it breaks down into a velvety consistency, allowing the grains to release their natural sweetness into the broth. Light yet flavourful, the porridge is infused with the essence of seafood and finished with plump, succulent king prawns.

This is comfort food in its purest form — nourishing, gentle on the palate, and deeply reassuring. It is the kind of dish that invites diners to slow down and savour each spoonful, whether enjoyed as a light meal or a restorative dish.

Hong Kong–Style Roasted Goose, Done Right

Roasted meats are a cornerstone of Cantonese cuisine, and Tasteful Kitchen’s goose dishes pay homage to this tradition. The Roasted Goose Drumstick Hong Kong Style with Cheong Fun (RM48.80++) is a standout, featuring beautifully roasted meat with glossy skin and tender flesh. The seasoning is restrained, allowing the natural richness of the goose to shine through.

Served with cheong fun that absorbs the savoury juices from the roast, the dish delivers familiar, comforting flavours that resonate with fans of classic Hong Kong roast houses.

For those who prefer noodles, the kitchen offers the Roasted Goose ‘Lai Fun’ Soup (RM28.80++), as well as the more substantial Roasted Goose Drumstick ‘Lai Fun’ Soup (RM48.80++). Both versions feature smooth rice noodles served in a clean, aromatic broth, complemented by slices of roasted goose or a full drumstick. The result is a satisfying bowl that balances richness with clarity, making it suitable for any time of day.

A Bakery Highlight: Signature Egg Tarts

While the savoury dishes draw diners in, it is Tasteful Kitchen’s signature egg tarts that often leave the strongest impression. Freshly baked and served warm, these tarts have earned a loyal following for their quality and consistency.

The Tasteful Egg White Egg Tart offers a lighter take, with a silky custard made using egg whites, resulting in a delicate texture and subtle aroma. In contrast, the Tasteful Classic Egg Tart delivers a richer experience, featuring a smooth, creamy custard encased in a crisp, buttery pastry.

Both versions showcase careful baking and attention to detail — from the flaky crust to the balanced sweetness of the filling. It is no surprise that many diners leave with additional tarts to enjoy later, though they rarely make it home untouched.

Where Simplicity Meets Thoughtful Cooking

Tasteful Kitchen does not attempt to reinvent Cantonese cuisine. Instead, it focuses on executing familiar dishes well, using quality ingredients and time-honoured techniques. The result is a menu that feels comforting yet refined, appealing to both regular patrons and first-time visitors.

In an area known for its diverse dining options, Tasteful Kitchen stands out by offering something increasingly rare: food that feels sincere, dependable, and made with genuine care.

For those seeking nourishing Cantonese classics, comforting bowls, and some of the most satisfying egg tarts in the neighbourhood, Tasteful Kitchen remains a destination worth returning to — again and again.
