A Family-Style Malaysian Chinese Feast at Golden Valley, Melawati Mall

October 17, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

Family meals are rarely about finding one perfect dish. What matters is having enough variety on the table for everyone to discover something they enjoy.

At Golden Valley in Melawati Mall, the Family Feast menu is designed around that spirit of communal dining. Available for groups of two, five or 10 diners, the sets bring together a selection of soups, poultry, seafood, tofu, egg and vegetable dishes without making the ordering process overly complicated.

During our visit, we sampled a generous spread featuring familiar Malaysian Chinese favourites, from Peking duck and sweet-and-sour fish to salted egg squid, butter oat prawns and aromatic Nyonya seafood.

Sze Chuan Soup

We began with the Sze Chuan Soup, a warm and appetising start to the meal.

The soup delivered the familiar combination of savoury, tangy and mildly spicy flavours without becoming overwhelmingly hot. Its comforting character helped awaken the appetite and prepared the palate for the richer dishes that followed.

Half Peking Duck Lettuce Wrap

One of the more eye-catching dishes was the Half Peking Duck Lettuce Wrap.

The roasted duck brought richness and savoury depth, while the fresh lettuce added a crisp and refreshing contrast. Wrapping the duck in lettuce made the dish feel lighter than a conventional pancake-style presentation and allowed diners to assemble each serving according to their preference.

Deep-Fried Seabass with Sweet and Sour Sauce

The Deep-Fried Seabass with Sweet and Sour Sauce was a familiar favourite done in a satisfying way. The fish was fried until crisp on the outside while retaining its tender flesh within. A generous coating of sweet-and-sour sauce added brightness, tanginess and just enough sweetness to complement the fish.

Salted Egg Squid

For something richer, the Salted Egg Squid delivered plenty of indulgence. The squid retained its pleasantly springy texture, while the salted egg coating added a creamy, savoury flavour. Its slightly grainy texture clung well to the squid, making each bite satisfyingly rich. This is best enjoyed with rice and balanced with lighter dishes such as vegetables or soup. For salted egg lovers, it is an easy addition to the table.

Butter and Oats Tiger Prawn

Another seafood highlight was the Butter and Oats Tiger Prawn. The tiger prawns had a natural sweetness and firm, succulent texture, while the buttery oats provided fragrance and crunch. The oats absorbed the savoury coating beautifully, and we found ourselves reaching for the crispy bits even after the prawns were finished.

Yam Basket Kung Po Chicken

The Yam Basket Kung Po Chicken stood out for both presentation and flavour. The crisp yam basket formed an attractive centrepiece, while the tender Kung Po chicken inside delivered savoury and gently spicy notes. The contrast between the flaky, crisp yam exterior and the saucy chicken made the dish especially enjoyable

Assorted Nyonya Seafood in Claypot

The Assorted Nyonya Seafood in Claypot brought a more aromatic dimension to the meal. The assorted seafood was coated in a fragrant Nyonya-style sauce with a balance of spicy, savoury and tangy flavours. Served in a claypot, the dish remained warm throughout the meal, allowing diners to return for another serving without losing its appeal. The sauce was especially good spooned over rice, making this one of the more comforting dishes in the spread.

Fried Garlic Kailan

With several rich and saucy dishes on the table, the Fried Garlic Kailan provided the freshness needed to keep the meal balanced. The kailan retained a satisfying bite, while fried garlic contributed aroma and savoury depth without overpowering the natural flavour of the vegetable.

A Feast Designed for Sharing

The strength of Golden Valley’s Family Feast lies in its flexibility. Diners can choose dishes across several categories, making it easier to create a spread that suits different tastes. A smaller group can opt for the two-person set, while larger families and gatherings can select the five- or 10-person menus

Final Verdict

Golden Valley’s Family Feast menu offers a convenient and satisfying way to enjoy a proper Malaysian Chinese meal with family and friends. The Butter and Oats Tiger Prawn and Salted Egg Squid were among the richer highlights, while the Assorted Nyonya Seafood in Claypot impressed with its aromatic sauce. The Half Peking Duck Lettuce Wrap added a refreshing touch, and the Deep-Fried Seabass with Sweet and Sour Sauce remained an easy crowd favourite.

For families looking for a varied Chinese-style feast without the difficulty of ordering too many individual items, Golden Valley’s Family Feast sets provide a practical option built around generous sharing, familiar flavours and the simple pleasure of gathering around a full table.
