EDITOR PICKS: BEST OF HAWKER @ PULAU TIKUS, PENANG

December 31, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

Recently , my hometown Penang was listed as No. 4 in Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Cities list for Best in Travel 2016.
“Georgetown might be widely known for its Unesco World Heritage-listed streetscape, but of late it has also emerged as the crucible of an artsy, modern Malaysia,” Lonely Planet said on its website.
But not just that, Penang is of course known as food heaven. As I was grown up in Pulau Tikus for over 15 years before I move to my new home in Bayan Lepas. Familiar with all the good-licious food in there, I always love everything from the place itself. This round I will put in some of the best I had in this place
1. COCONUT ICE CREAM @ WAT CHAYAMANGKALARAM

Made by the Thais who stay in the temple; the thai coconut ice cream here is one of the best I had. Made in house, they are only open on weekends and holidays only.
Address: 17, Lorong Burma, 10250, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
2. CHEE CHEONG FAN @ KWAI LOCK COFFEE SHOP

The Chee Cheong Fan by the two old couple is one of my favorite here. They give thick sauce as well as silky Cheong fan.Address: Halaman Pulau Tikus, Jalan Burma, George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Phone:+60 16-404 1434

3. SWEE KANG KOPITIAM

The old traditional kopitiam in Penang bringing you loads of local delicacies. Be patient there as they have good business and sometimes they cant  get your order fast though. Recommendation:
1) Chicken Rice : A different style of chicken rice we usually had. Tender juicy meat
2) Prawn Mee: Be there early before 9 am ; sold off indeed very fast.
3) Apom : The Indian style of Apom not to be missed there
4) Ban Chang Kuih : The stall located just in front of Swee Kang ( open only after 12 pm)Address: 319, Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus, Penang, George Town, 10050

Opening Hours:
Mon.-Sun. 06:30-15:00

Mon.-Sun. 06:30-09:30 (Breakfast)
Mon.-Sun. 12:00-15:00 (Lunch)
Closed on Thursday

4. JALAN PASAR PUTU MAYAM

Selling by the road side with the van, their putu mayam is simply famous as we spotted them in Flamingo Hotel long time ago where he is doing in their buffet spread. Choice of normal and  pandan flavor putu mayam. Nicely done and delicious. Open only in the morning

Address: Jalan Pasar, Pulau Tikus

5. JALAN PASAR BAN CHANG KUIH

Aside from the Putu Mayam, the Ban Chang Kuih in Jalan Pasar is also a famous one.  I usually ask for load of peanuts with it. Nice. Open only in the morning

Address: Jalan Pasar, Pulau Tikus
6. WESTERN FOOD @ SIN HUP AUN

The Western food here  had been very long and I am having it since I am a little kid. They have nice western food at affordable price.  Oh ya, one of my favorite is the fried banana.
Recommendation:
1) Fried Rice
2) Chicken Maryland
3) Hainanese Chicken Chop
4) Fish & ChipsAddress:17 Jalan Pasar, 10350 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

7. BANGKOK LANE MEE GORENG

It is one of the famous Mee Goreng in town. The Indian uncle is so famous and  friendly too. You can ask him to pose for you when he is half frying the noodles. I still love the dry version of mee goreng here.  Oh ya, you can here his performance from afar.
Recommendation:
Mee Goreng
Address: 280, Jalan Burma, George Town,
10350 Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

8. SIN HWA KOPITIAM

Famed for the Char Koay Teow, Sin Hwa Kopitiam is of course not that famous as the Sister Char Koay Teow, no big prawns but they have decent one though. Price is pretty reasonable too. And don’t forget to order their asam laksa too
Recommendation:
1) Char Koay Teow
2) Asam LaksaAddress:
Along Jalan Burmah,
10350 Pulau Tikus,

9. TAU FU FA INFRONT MAYBANK

The  van stall which usually located in front of the Maybank along Jalan Burmah is one of the famous one here. Silky toufufa which is indeed a nice one to go for. Available morning only.
