Taman Emas Kopitiam is another place for a kopitiam dine in the afternoon in Penang. The location? It is just opposite The Peng Hwa Chinese Girl School. The shop is a small corner shop and there are few stalls like curry mee, popiah, chee cheung fan, laksa as well as Char Koay Teow.
The popiah here is the deep friend mengkuang and the size is smaller. The whole popiah is mainly with the mengkuang and some carrots inside. Then it is being deep fried till golden brown. The mini mengkuang popiah is very crunchy and when you munch of it, you can feel the crust of it.
My next order is the laksa. The laksa is not those spicy laksa but it is the asam laksa. The laksa portion Is slightly smaller and taste wise is soury. As for the ingredients- it is still maintaining the usual laksa ingredient but they use Sardine fish rather than keembung fish where kembung fish will make the soup taste sweeter.
The chee cheong fan is not really delighting as perhaps because of the sauce. The sauce is salty and the combination of the sweet sauce and the prawn sauce does not match at all. Though is just a small portion, I could hardly finish them. Gosh!!
Char Koay Teow here is quite delighting. The stir of the koay teow is a bit overcooked but the overall taste is simply delighting. The meal combination is a superb which make me really fall in love with it.
Taste:
Char Koay Teow; 4/5
Popiah:4/5
Laksa:4/5
Chee cheung fan: 2/5
