Luxury Dim Sum Reimagined: A Decadent Brunch at Ming Ren Xuan, Avenue K

May 3, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

For many Malaysians, dim sum is more than just a meal—it’s a beloved ritual. Whether it’s a leisurely weekend brunch or a spontaneous weekday craving, the comfort of steamed baskets and fried delicacies never gets old. But at Ming Ren Xuan, nestled within the sleek interiors of Avenue K, dim sum takes on a whole new identity—one that’s sophisticated, indulgent, and artfully curated.

We recently had the pleasure of revisiting Ming Ren Xuan, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Here, tradition meets innovation, with time-honoured dim sum staples elevated by premium ingredients like black truffle, abalone, and caviar. It’s dim sum, redefined.

A Taste of Opulence

Our meal kicked off with the Steamed Pork & Prawn Dumplings with Caviar, a luxurious twist on the classic siu mai. Each dumpling was juicy and well-seasoned, but it was the tiny dollop of caviar that stole the show—adding a briny, umami-rich finish that made every bite feel like a celebration.

Equally memorable were the Steamed Prawn Dumplings with Black Truffle. Delicate, translucent har gow filled with succulent prawns and kissed with earthy black truffle—it was a beautiful fusion of land and sea, and a dream for any dumpling lover.

For something lighter, the Steamed Prawns & Lychee Dumplings with Eryngii Mushroom offered a more herbal, nourishing flavour profile. The inclusion of goji berries added a touch of natural sweetness, while the mushrooms gave it a subtle chew. It was delicate, yet fulfilling.

Then came the Baked Bamboo Charcoal Buns stuffed with Barbecued Pork—a visually striking dish with its deep charcoal exterior. But beyond its dramatic look was a beautifully fluffy bun packed with smoky, tender char siu. A true indulgence.

No dim sum experience is complete without Pan-Fried Radish Cake, and Ming Ren Xuan’s version did not disappoint. Enhanced with bits of dried scallops, each slice was golden-crisp on the outside and meltingly soft within. It’s a comforting dish elevated with just the right touch of umami.

One of the most decadent items we tried was the Deep-Fried Yam Puff stuffed with Abalone and Truffle. Creamy, flaky, and rich with flavour, it took an old-school favourite and transformed it into something truly luxurious. A must-try for yam puff enthusiasts.

To round off the experience, we indulged in the Barbecued Duo Combination Platter—perfectly roasted meats that were juicy, tender, and packed with flavour. Each slice was a reminder of why Cantonese BBQ remains timeless.

And finally, the Signature Fried Rice with Assorted Seafood—a dish that, though not part of the dim sum canon, provided the perfect end to the meal. Fluffy grains, wok hei, and an abundance of prawns, scallops, and other seafood treasures made it a complete and satisfying conclusion.

Dining at Ming Ren Xuan is a departure from the typical dim sum outing. Here, it’s not just about filling up—it’s about savouring every luxurious bite. The menu thoughtfully balances classic comfort with modern flair, making it a fantastic choice whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself to something extraordinary.
