He Jia Huan @  Selayang Jaya: A comfort dining for Si Chuan Delights

April 2, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

For those who love bold and authentic Sichuan flavors, He Jia Huan ((阖家欢 • 中国菜) at Selayang Jaya is a must-visit spot. This humble eatery serves up classic Chinese dishes packed with robust flavors, spicy kicks, and comforting textures. Whether you’re craving something fiery or a simple, soothing meal, He Jia offers the best of both worlds.

Suan Cai Yu (Sichuan Fish with Sour Vegetable, 酸菜鱼)

A signature dish of Sichuan cuisine, Suan Cai Yu is a delightful balance of tangy, spicy, and umami flavors. The fish slices are tender and silky, cooked in a rich broth infused with pickled mustard greens (酸菜), dried chilies, Sichuan peppercorns, and fragrant garlic. The broth delivers a mouth-numbing sensation (mala, 麻辣), yet remains light and appetizing, making it perfect to enjoy with steamed rice. Each bite of fish absorbs the sour-spicy broth, offering an addictive combination of heat and savoriness.

Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐)

No Sichuan meal is complete without Mapo Tofu, and He Jia’s version does not disappoint. The soft, silky tofu is smothered in a deeply flavorful, spicy, and slightly numbing fermented chili bean sauce. The minced meat topping adds a rich umami depth, while the signature Sichuan peppercorns bring that tingling sensation that defines this dish. It’s the kind of dish that makes you reach for another bowl of rice.

Silky Steamed Tofu

For a more delicate and milder option, the Silky Steamed Tofu is a standout. This dish focuses on simplicity, allowing the natural soft and creamy texture of the tofu to shine. Lightly seasoned with soy sauce, fragrant garlic oil, and topped with spring onions, it offers a soothing contrast to the fiery Sichuan dishes on the menu. It’s a great choice for those who prefer a lighter, more comforting meal.

He Jia Huan (阖家欢 • 中国菜) at Selayang Jaya serves up authentic and well-executed Sichuan flavors, making it an ideal spot for spice lovers and comfort food seekers alike
