The fusion of exquisite flavors and captivating aesthetics is the hallmark of this exceptional restaurant. As you step into its space, you’ll find yourself enveloped in an ambiance illuminated by the gentle embrace of natural sunlight. This luminous glow delicately bathes the sushi counter, creating an enchanting backdrop for a culinary adventure like no other.

What truly sets Sushi Yoshi apart is their meticulous attention to detail, showcased not only in their ambiance but also in their thoughtfully curated set menus. To cater to diverse preferences and desires, Sushi Yoshi offers four distinct omakase sets, each promising a symphony of flavors that dance on your palate.

The “Omakase Shun” transcends expectations with a ten-course opus priced at RM 598, enticing you to embark on an immersive culinary exploration that embraces a rich medley of flavors. Meanwhile, the “Omakase Kiwami” offers a grand nine-course symphony that showcases the pinnacle of culinary artistry, available at RM 888.

For those with discerning tastes and a penchant for the extraordinary, the “Omakase Takumi” presents a special menu curated to astonish and delight, priced at RM 1298 per person.

The Chef

At the helm of Sushi Yoshi’s culinary mastery stands the esteemed Head Chef, Chef Otsuka San, a true maestro hailing from the culinary haven of Japan. Drawing inspiration from his extensive experience, Chef Otsuka San has honed his craft in renowned culinary destinations, including the iconic Ginza district in Japan. His culinary prowess took him even further to the heart of Barcelona, Spain, where he contributed his artistry to the acclaimed Koy Shunka, a Michelin-starred restaurant. And being that, Chef Otsuka San would love to bring his culinary experience to Malaysia for Malaysian to try their Omakase.

What We Had

As for us, we tried their “Omakase Shun” which is at RM 598.00. The 10 course set.

Appetizers/ Zenzai

Among the delectable creations gracing our table were the tantalizing Wasabi Tsubagai accompanied by the refreshing essence of Yuzu Jelly. And we had the Ankimo which brings you with the rich and yet soft velvety texture. It’s indeed a melts in the mouth sensation.

The gastronomic voyage continued with the inclusion of Cherry Tomato, a burst of freshness that invigorated the palate. And a must to have is their Rainbow Mini Don is indeed a masterfully crafted creation by the chef. This petite yet creatively conceived dish showcased a spectrum of colors and flavors, offering a preview of the culinary delights that lay ahead.

Wild Seasonal Sashimi

First to grace our palate was the Botan Ebi, a jewel of the ocean renowned for its succulent sweetness and delicate texture. The vibrant and glistening slices of Otoro followed, a luxurious offering that melted effortlessly on the tongue, leaving a rich and buttery sensation that lingered.

Next in line was the Hamachi, its firm yet tender flesh revealing a pristine taste that evoked the essence of the sea. Completing this quartet was the Kinmedai, a fish known for its exquisite marbling and delectably mild flavor, offering a harmonious balance of textures and tastes. They are divinely deliciously and we are totally sold with the goodness of its sashimi. The cut is generous too, where is thick and fresh.

Cold Entrée

The Cold Entrée in Sushi Yoshi was graced by a truly exquisite creation: the Oyster. At the heart of this dish lay a premium, generously sized oyster, its briny flavors a testament to the pristine waters from which it hailed. The oyster was adorned with the finest accents that elevated its already remarkable profile. A crown of premium uni, known for its creamy texture and umami-rich taste, graced the oyster making it a masterpiece to enjoy.

To further elevate the indulgence, a scattering of caviar crowned the dish, each pearl glistening like a precious gemstone. The burst of flavor and subtle saltiness that the caviar imparted was the perfect complement to the oyster’s natural sweetness. Each bite was a crescendo of sensations, a harmonious interplay of textures and tastes that danced on the palate.

Mushimono Dish : Chawanmushi

This is one of our favourites. The Awabi Chawanmushi is impressive where the classic Japanese savory egg custard is served with a generous serving of Awabi, or abalone, a prized ingredient renowned for its tender and flavorful profile. Together with chef specially curated sauce, it brings us with the symphony of umami-rich flavors, added depth and complexity to every bite. And we love the balance of sweet, savory, and slightly briny notes harmonized with the natural flavors of the abalone.

Agemono

The Agemono presented by Chef Otsuka San at Sushi Yoshi was truly a masterpiece that left an indelible impression on our taste buds. Each element of this dish was meticulously crafted, showcasing the chef’s culinary expertise and dedication to delivering an exceptional dining experience.

The Shiitake with Assorted Fish Tempura was a standout star within the Agemono Dish, embodying the perfect harmony between texture and flavor. The shiitake mushrooms, adorned with a light and crispy batter, offered a delightful crunch that gave way to their earthy essence. Paired alongside an assortment of fish, the tempura created a symphony of tastes, where the delicate flakiness of the fish complemented the robustness of the mushrooms.

Equally impressive was the Seasonal Vegetables Tempura, which celebrated the innate goodness of fresh produce. The vegetables, transformed into golden treasures through the art of frying, retained their natural flavors while acquiring a delightful crispiness. This simple yet refined approach allowed each vegetable to shine, showcasing its unique taste and texture.

Seasonal Dish

The delectable fish, expertly prepared and grilled to perfection, was a revelation in both taste and texture. As we savored each bite, the flaky and tender texture of the fish became immediately apparent. Each mouthful of the grilled fish was a journey of flavors, with the natural essence of the fish shining through.

Chef’s Selection Nigiri Sushi – 6pcs

The Nigiri Sushi at Sushi Yoshi brings you with the symphony of flavours and textures where each piece is beautifully crafted by Chef Otsuka. And this time, Chef Otsuka had prepared our delectable sushi with the freshest ingredient all the way from Japan. This includes Madai, Isaki, Tuna Akami, Otoro with Uni and the Tamago Yaki. Each sushi is beautifully curated by the chef expertly and they are superbly delicious and double thumbs up.

Mini Donburi

The Mini Donburi at Sushi Yoshi was a delightful exploration of flavors and textures, offering a unique twist on the traditional Japanese rice bowl. The Mini Donburi completes with Seasonal Fish Tempura which comes with the perfect balance between the delicate crunch of the batter and the succulent tenderness of the fish within. It is then topped with 4 types of uni (sea urchin) and Ikura (salmon roe) elevated the Mini Donburi to new heights of indulgence. The velvety richness of the Uni contributed a luxurious creaminess that danced on the palate, while the burst of briny flavors from the Ikura added a delightful pop of sensation.

Soup

Transitioning gracefully from the main courses to the grand finale, we were treated to a soothing bowl of clam soup, a comforting interlude that prepared our palates for the upcoming dessert delights.

The clam soup exuded an inviting aroma, its fragrance wafting gently as the steam rose from the bowl. The clear broth was a testament to the precision and finesse of Chef Otsuka’s culinary expertise. Every spoonful revealed the essence of the ocean, with the delicate sweetness of the clams infusing the liquid with a subtle richness.

Desserts

The dessert symphony at Sushi Yoshi was a delightful crescendo of flavors, textures, and colors, a fitting finale to an exceptional omakase experience. The Matcha Red Bean Mochi comes with the matcha-infused mochi which is filled with the  delicate sweetness of the red bean filling provided a perfect contrast. With each bite, the chewy mochi yielded to the creamy richness of the red bean. As for the yuzu sorbet, a refreshing interlude, offered a burst of citrusy brightness that cleansed the palate. And for the petite cheesecake, it brings you with the veltvety smoothness and light sweetness. And finally, the imported honey melon brings you with the  luscious and juicy bites.

It is an exceptional omakase meal at Sushi Yoshi is a testament to Chef Otsuka’s culinary artistry and dedication. The meticulous attention to detail, use of premium, fresh ingredients, and harmonious flavor combinations create a dining experience that rivals even those in Japan. It’s a delightful reminder that you can savor top-tier Japanese cuisine without the need to travel abroad. Sushi Yoshi brings this extraordinary culinary journey right to your table, offering a captivating exploration of flavors, textures, and emotions that whisk you away to the heart of Japanese gastronomy.
