Sunbather Coffee’s @ Bangsar South New Menu Has Arrived — And It’s a Feast for All Senses

June 7, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

For lovers of Japanese cuisine with a creative twist, Sunbather Coffee at The Sphere, Bangsar South, continues to raise the bar. Known for its modern Yoshoku offerings — the charming blend of Western-influenced Japanese dishes — the café has just launched a refreshed menu that brings comforting flavours, meticulous presentation, and innovative combinations to eager diners.

With its sleek minimalist interior, clean lines, and calming atmosphere, Sunbather Coffee offers more than just a place to enjoy a meal. Its open kitchen invites guests to engage all their senses, allowing diners to watch the chefs at work and savour the enticing aromas wafting through the café — a visual and olfactory experience even before the first bite.

Crispy Salmon Ochazuke

Among the highlights of the new menu is the Ochazuke, a dish deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. Typically featuring rice steeped in tea or broth, Sunbather’s rendition offers three tempting variations: the Homey Hambagu Ochazuke, the Charred Saba Ochazuke, and the standout Crispy Salmon Ochazuke. This latter version features fragrant shiso-infused rice crowned with perfectly crisped salmon, all gently bathed in a light, savoury tea-based broth. Accompanied by ajitsuke tamago (marinated egg) and a tray of condiments, diners are encouraged to customise the flavours to suit their personal taste — creating a soothing, warming meal that feels both indulgent and healthful.

Hambagu Don Set

For those with heartier appetites, the Hambagu Don Set is a must-try. Featuring two thick, juicy hamburger patties, nestled on a bed of Japanese rice and blanketed in a luscious savoury gravy, the dish is crowned with a soft onsen egg. Every spoonful is rich, satisfying, and deeply comforting — the very essence of a Japanese homestyle meal, elevated with finesse.

Chicken Leg Soup Curry

Sunbather Coffee’s commitment to showcasing regional Japanese influences shines through with its Chicken Leg Soup Curry — a dish inspired by the beloved Hokkaido-style soup curry. Here, a delicately spiced, herb-infused broth is slow-simmered to perfection, enveloping a tender chicken leg in layers of flavour. Unlike the heavier, thicker curries many might expect, this version is lighter yet boldly aromatic, offering a unique, spoon-by-spoon experience that warms the soul.

Of course, no Japanese-inspired café would be complete without showstopping desserts. Sunbather’s Muscat Parfait is an elegant creation, combining the gentle sweetness of fresh Muscat grapes with delicate layers of cream and crisp elements, resulting in a dessert that’s both light and luxurious.

Meanwhile, the Tiramisu — a classic favourite — delights with its silky texture and deep coffee-infused richness, making it the perfect finale to any meal.

Beyond the menu, what makes Sunbather Coffee stand out is its thoughtful balance between authenticity and creativity. The dishes pay homage to time-honoured Japanese techniques and flavours, yet they are reimagined for a contemporary Malaysian audience, blending familiar ingredients with new, exciting combinations.

Open daily at The Sphere in Bangsar South, Sunbather Coffee continues to attract a loyal following — from families enjoying a leisurely weekend brunch, to young professionals grabbing a midday break, to food lovers eager to explore Japanese-Western fusion. With the launch of this new menu, Sunbather Coffee cements its place as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most beloved dining destinations, offering not just a meal, but a holistic sensory experience.
