EXPERIENCE RICH CULTURAL DELIGHT AT SURIA KLCC, ALAMANDA SHOPPING CENTRE AND MESRA MALL THIS RAYA

April 2, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Suria KLCC, the city’s iconic experiential shopping destination, invites shoppers to embark on a journey of cultural immersion this Raya season. With Hari Raya falling on 10 and 11 April, Suria KLCC is running its joyous 38-day Hari Raya campaign from 15 March to 21 April.

The Centre Court is transformed into a lush garden that is distinctly Malaysian with cascading bougainvilleas, majestic palm trees, as well as other local tropical foliage and blooms.

Nestled within this idyllic setting stands a traditional ‘Rumah Kampung’ elevated on stilts, creating a focal point steeped in nostalgia. Serving as the perfect backdrop, the scene is adorned with traditional woven crafts, such as baskets, hand fans, and trays. These woven elements in vibrant hues take centre stage to showcase Malaysia’s rich artistry and cultural heritage.

Here, shoppers can try their hands at traditional games like ‘Teng Teng’ (hopscotch), ‘Batu Seremban’, and ‘Congkak’ throughout the Hari Raya campaign. Shoppers can also capture cherished memories at the photobooth, where they receive both complimentary physical print-outs and e-copies. The festive atmosphere is further heightened on weekends with lively cultural performances.

In partnership with Kraftangan Malaysia, Suria KLCC will host activities such as Craft Demonstration and Craft Interactive sessions at the Centre Court, with local craft sales at Level 1, Ramlee Mall from 15 March to 7 April. Aligned with Suria KLCC’s enduring dedication to mental health awareness, shoppers who participate in the activities can purchase the Suria Ribbon Pin, priced at RM10 and receive an exclusive batik mask. Proceeds will be directed to support an NGO of choice.

Step outside at the Esplanade KLCC to witness a larger-than-life 60-ft Pelita. This installation, recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2022 as the Biggest “Lampu Pelita” Replica in Malaysia, showcases colourful woven textures on its panels.

Suria KLCC’s festive shopping experience is enhanced with exciting rewards where shoppers spending RM1,500 and above in two receipts from 15 March to 14 April will receive RM100 Suria KLCC Shopping e-Vouchers and a set of exclusive Suria KLCC Raya Packets.

In addition to the rewards, the first 50 shoppers purchasing RM1,000 worth of Suria KLCC Shopping e-Vouchers will receive an additional RM100 e-Vouchers.

Alamanda Shopping Centre

Also running from 15 March to 21 April, the Hari Raya celebration at Alamanda Putrajaya embraces the theme of colourful weavings set against a tropical garden backdrop. The Centre Court is transformed into a tropical haven, featuring a traditional ‘Rumah Kampung’ with vibrant woven elements on walls, windows, and roof. The scene, surrounded by oil lamps, is reminiscent of traditional villages of yesteryears. Shoppers can also engage in cultural activities, indulging in traditional games like ‘Batu Seremban’, giant-sized ‘Congkak’, and ‘Teng Teng’.

On weekends from 30 March to 7 April, there are arts and crafts activities in store for VIKids members, while shoppers can learn how to weave a ‘Ketupat’. Cultural performances are also held on these weekends at the Centre Court to ramp up the festivities.

Adding to the excitement, shoppers are rewarded via the Shoppers Rewards Programme. Those who spend RM700 in two receipts get a colourful woven bag and a set of exclusive Raya Packets. As for high spenders who spend RM1,500 and above in two receipts, they get RM50 Alamanda Shopping Vouchers on top of the woven bags and Raya Packets.

With a steadfast commitment to CSR, Alamanda Shopping Centre extends its care to the less fortunate through a dedicated ‘Buka Puasa’ event for orphans. This event sees the children enjoy a festive performance, shop for new Raya clothes and shoes, as well as receive ‘Duit Raya’.

Mesra Mall

Over at Mesra Mall in Kemaman, Terengganu, the Hari Raya campaign will run for 46 days, from 12 March to 30 April. This festive extravaganza also features traditional woven crafts in its decoration, adding cultural richness to the celebration.

As part of the festivities, shoppers embracing the spirit of the season can delight in exclusive rewards— a colourful woven bamboo bag and a set of Raya Packets—upon spending RM350 in two receipts.

An array of activities awaits on Fridays and Saturdays in the lead-up to Hari Raya, including a ‘Weaving Costume’ Competition, Mesra Colouring Contest for children, ‘Biskut Raya’ Decoration Workshop, traditional dance performances, Hari Raya celebration with the ‘Orang Asli,’ Florist Workshop, Raya Make-Up Workshop, and ‘Kembalikan Kad Raya’ Workshop.

Committed to giving back to the community, Mesra Mall brings meaning to Hari Raya celebrations with its CSR initiatives. A Jalinan Mesra programme with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Kemaman will be held on 21 March. In this community engagement, 40 old folks will join the Mesra Mall management, local authorities, and sponsors for a communal breaking of fast. Additionally, on 28 March, 500 shoppers will be treated to the distribution of Bubur Lambuk.

Festivals are occasions for shared joy and cultural celebration. At Suria KLCC, Alamanda and Mesra Mall, efforts have been made to create an immersive experience that encapsulates the essence of Hari Raya and allows shoppers to engage with Malaysia’s rich heritage. As we weave meaning into these moments of joy, may this celebration be a source of unity and festive delight for all.
