Ah Kang Famous Duck Porridge @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

February 3, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

It is my first time trying Ah Kang porridge and they are indeed unique. And for those who are not aware, Ah Kang Duck & Fish Porridge has a history that goes back to the 1960s.

The stories begin back to 1960s in the little small town of Pekan Nenas, Johor where it began with Ah Kun who sold the braised duck porridge back then during the 1960s. The recipes was passed from Ah Kun to Ah Kang’s dad and they started selling them back in 1974. Their signatures were the Ikan Parang and Pomfret porridge. Ah Kang’s dad was very particular in using a variety of special good materials in the porridge which enhanced the taste and give it a unique experience. It was a very popular stall in this small town. Ah Kang was with the business from the start since the age of 14 and learnt how to cook from his mum and dad. The business stopped in the late 1980s when the Ah Kang father passed away and his mum moved to Kuala Lumpur with him.

Ah Kang started the business again with his sibling in 2007 at Subang Jaya Section 14 under the name Restoran Tien Kee. Many from the small town of Pekan Nenas who moved to KL came afar to taste this famous Braised Duck and Ikan Parang porridge.  Many good reviews were written about them in the Stars, Sunday Mail and Subang Echo. The business was mainly run by Ah Kang’s brother, Raymond and Sister, Jacylyn. Business was very good right form the beginning and lasted  for three years. Finally due to failing health of Ah Kang’s mother the business could not carry on without her.

Now the business is revived in another exciting form. Ah Kang’s son JC mooted the idea that he wanted to revive his grandpa legacy and turn it into a famous hawker chain called Ah Kang famous Duck & Fish porridge/ noodle.

Garoupa Porridge  with Salted Vege Soup

And this time, we are here to try their awesome delights such as the Garoupa  with Salted Vege Soup. It is indeed my first time enjoying them. To enjoy them, you need to mix both the porridge and the soup together as the taste perfect. The Garoupa is just so fresh and with the salted vegetable soup added in it, they actually enhance the whole flavour.

Pomfret porridge with Salted Vege Porridge

The satisfying porridge with the geneoris portion of pomfret in it. They are just so perfect and delicious where you can have the chunky bites of fish in it. They are just as good as the garoupa porridge.

Dry Duck Koay Teow

One can enjoy the the awesome duck koay teow at the comfort of your home. The silky dry koay teow is served with the bowl of delighting savoury braised duck. They are so perfectly done with the tender juicy meat with it.

Ikan Parang with Bitter Gourd Kuey Teow Mee

The Ikan Parang with Bitter Gourd Kuey Teow Mee is perfectly good where the noodles are smooth and silky. The Bitter Gourd Koay Teow Mee is just fabulous where they are so fragrant with the generous soft and bitter taste in it.

And finally, the duck porridge gives you the double thumbs up. The porridge comes simply silky and velvety and each mouthful comes sinfully good. Delicious.

And now; you can enjoy these awesome dishes from Yao Duck Hei
