Madam Kwan – A life as Extraordinary as her Curries : Book & Curry Paste Launching

September 8, 2017 by StrawberrY Gal

Madam Kwan’s –  a restaurant where you cant go wrong when you are there. The restaurant which is showcasting the best of Malaysian delights where they have one of the best curries, rendangs and of course my favorite Nasi Lemak. Being that, we often see Madam Kwan’s with her smiling face in her hat and also glasses. Madam Kwan Swee Lian – the 83 years old lady is still up at the crack of dawn every day to oversee the food preparations in the central kitchen and a familiar sight at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Outlet during the day with her friendly figure, large framed glasses and the signature hat.

Paying tribute to the grande dame who speaks Cantonese and Bahasa Malaysia, the family-owneed business has published a biography sharing Kwan’s life story while featuring her favourite recipes from her childhood as well as from Madam Kwan’s.

Written by her granddaughter, Catherine Foo, “Madam Kwan: Her Untold Story and Beloved Recipes” tells  the tale of how a tenacious and enterprising beauty salon business woman with no cooking experience moved into the restaurant business to eventually build a  successful enterprise with her son Rudy and daughter in law- Rudy and Maureen Ooi.

The book filled with biography that touches each of everyone of us and also it is complete  with 25  recipes. These 25 recipes will be coming with the classic favoriteswhere yu can have those delicious Hainanese Chicken Chop, fragrant Petail Prawns, Creamy Curry Fish Head and also the iconic Nasi Bojari.
Celebrating her life and contribution to promoting Malaysian Cuisine, local celebrity  and business partners joined the close family members at the launch and Madam Kwan also launched her own Madam Kwan’s Curry Paste which is being infused with the aromatic spices such as turmeric, lemongrass, shrimp paste and candlenut.
And for those who are looking to purchase the book, they are retails at RM 89.00 nett while for the awesome curry paste, they are retail at RM 13.90 nett. For those who are looking to purchase this lovely gift, you can get them both at RM 100nett, which comes with the special tote bag. All of these are available in all Madam Kwan Outlets.
