25th Anniversary of Marco Polo German Bierfest

October 2, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Bierfest is back! From 21 October to 12 November, Marco Polo German Bierfest 2016 will celebrate 23 days of ϋber-fun, exceeding the 16-day celebration in Munich, Germany. The undisputed Marco Polo signature event in Hong Kong has been an annual highlight of entertainment calendars for residents and visitors alike for the past 24 years. It is Hong Kong’s longest-running outdoor Oktoberfest and also the most authentic and popular award-winning German beer festival in Hong Kong.

“Prost and Win” Lucky Draw

From 21 October to 12 November, every participant will be given a lucky draw ticket at the venue entrance. The grand prize winner will receive a Lehmann Watch (Wonderland Watch Special Edition) valued at HK$55,000. Other fabulous prizes include dining vouchers at authentic Italian restaurant Cucina, Three on Canton, Cafe Marco and add@Prince.

25th Anniversary Special

To celebrate the Silver Jubilee, a special limited-edition giant beer combo will be introduced every night. Beer lovers can enjoy a 1-litre beer mug filled with quality beer – and they can keep the giant beer mug when they finish as a souvenir. Priced at HK$250, the giant beer combo is accompanied by two pretzels, and only 25 combo sets are available daily.

On Friday 21 October, a Silver Jubilee Bus Party will be held in honour of the opening day of this year’s Marco Polo German Bierfest. An open-top double-decker bus will cruise along Tsim Sha Tsui’s Canton Road and Nathan Road between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. The Notenhobler Band from Germany will play classic songs along the way, and even take photos with fans.

The Most Popular Beer – Erdinger Weißbräu

This year, Marco Polo German Bierfest will feature the widely popular German beer, ERDINGER Weissbräu. The world-famous German brewery has been creating superb wheat beer for 130 years. A selection of beers will be available, including Erdinger Weissbier with citrusy notes and a fresh, clean after-taste, the full-bodied Erdinger Dunkel and Fischer’s stiftungsbräu helles lager. Fischer’s features clean malt flavors and  Marco Polo German Bierfest is the only venue serve this beer in Hong Kong. There will also be limited quantities of special edition Erdinger Oktoberfest, with a gold colour and seasonal fruit notes, which is produced once a year for the festival, ensuring guests enjoy a genuine Oktoberfest vibe in Hong Kong.

As an added bonus, special edition souvenir beer mugs printed with the 25th anniversary logo will be given out to adults on Fridays and Saturdays, and specially designed hats will be distributed onsite as a surprise for guests on selected nights.

The Notenhobler Band from Germany

Since 1994, The Notenhobler Band from Germany has been the official band of Marco Polo German Bierfest. The rousing band wears original Oberkrainer clothes and sings traditional tunes and hearty folk music. Their entertaining antics along with popular drinking competitions and traditional games such as the Alphorn-blowing Contest and Chicken Dance make for a truly memorable ambience.
Band Show times: 7:30pm – 11:00pm

Guten Appetit!

Last year, we served more than 55,800 litres of beer, 18,580 pretzels and 13,837 roast pork knuckles. This year, our top chefs will continue to prepare a nightly mouth-watering culinary feast featuring authentic German dishes, such as Roast pork knuckle served with braised red cabbage and gratinated potato (HK$185), Pan-fried sausages “Nürnberger” style with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (HK$150), Roast herb-marinated half chicken with carrot and potato salad (HK$160), Pan-fried salmon cutlet served with creamed spinach and boiled new potato (HK$160), and Roast lamb leg with garlic served with braised red cabbage and gratinated potato (HK$165).

For non-beer drinkers, a wide selection of classic beverages will be offered, such as Jägermeister, apple schnapps, red and white wines, juices and soft drinks. At Marco Polo German Bierfest, there are many ways to say “Prost!”

Capping the hearty feast is an array of traditional German desserts, such as Apple strudel with vanilla sauce, German cheesecake with forest berry compote, Black forest cake and Fresh strawberry tart with ice cream, all served at HK$85 per portion.
