PINKTOBER: HARD ROCK’S SIGNATURE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME

October 22, 2013 by StrawberrY Gal

Hard Rock embarks on its 14th consecutive year of raising awareness and funds for breast cancer in Malaysia. Various efforts have been taken to support this cause, including donations generated from the sales of its exclusive PINKTOBER food, beverage and merchandise. This is an effort by Hard Rock to continuously sustain and support breast cancer awareness in the country.

Nor Esah Abdul Ghani, Marketing Manager for Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur said, “Breast cancer is the number one killer of women in Malaysia. One out of 20 women in Malaysia is at risk of breast cancer. As a woman myself, I understand that I may be at risk too. To further strengthen this cause, Hard Rock initiated the PINKTOBER programme to raise awareness.”

“PINKTOBER is not only an event to raise breast cancer awareness. It is also to support breast cancer patients. We urge the public to join us in the fight against breast cancer,” added Nor.

A special PINKTOBER event will be held at the cafe on Saturday, 26 October 2013, from 2pm till late. Various performances have been put together for participants of the event, including a performance by Yayasan Kanser Malaysia; poem reading by Aida Kamsuri; salsa performance and interaction dance; poco-poco dance performance by the Lady Bikers Club Malaysia; and a cancer survivor’s biker tour.

“We have seen an increase of cancer patients over the past few years. Hard Rock Cafe has always been very supportive not only to build the awareness, but also to help those who are fighting this disease. We hope to see more support from the community to assist on reducing the risk and rate of cancer patients through awareness and education,” said Mohd Royzilee Mustaffa, chairman of Yayasan Kanser Malaysia.

The event is open to the public with a RM50 charity donation. Guests will get to enjoy the exclusive “pink menu” from 2pm till 5pm during the event. The menu includes items such as Grilled Salmon, Grilled Chicken Breast with Mushroom Sauce, Caesar Salad with Grilled Fajitas Chicken, Honey Citrus Salad with Grilled Prawns, Strawberry Melba and non-alcoholic cocktail, Violet Breeze.

Part of the charity donation proceeds will be channeled to Yayasan Kanser Malaysia. Participants will also stand a chance to win a mystery prize during the event

Hard Rock fans can also support the cause with Hard Rock’s 2013 PINKTOBER merchandise, which includes a collector’s edition pin, T-shirt, bracelet, and scarf. All products will be sold exclusively at Hard Rock properties worldwide, including cafes, hotels, and online at www.hardrock.com. Seventy five per cent of the retail price of each pin and 15 per cent of the retail price of other merchandises will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Caron Keating Foundation.

Since Hard Rock’s establishment in 1971, it has also been committed to a wide variety of philanthropic causes and activities around the world, and Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur carries this commitment to its market. In every Hard Rock city, the staff makes it a priority to become a valuable community partner. In the form of funds, food and beverage, merchandise and man hours, Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur will give back locally, as well as participate in global corporate philanthropic initiatives ranging from breast cancer awareness programmes to rock icons’ favourite causes, through the annual Signature Series T-shirt programme.
