ENGLISH AFTERNOON TEA @ NEWENS TEA HOUSE, STARHILL

December 29, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

NEWENS TEA HOUSE

Newens Tea House opened back on December 2014 in Starhill Gallery where it brings you with the traditional British Tea House concept where the original Newens is in London and it is a 200 year old London tea room brand.
NEWENS TEA HOUSE
The British tea house, Newens has brought historic 500 year old Maids of Honour tarts to Malaysia for the first time. They were first discovered by Tudor King Henry VIII who declared them so delicious the recipe was kept secret for 200 years until it was leaked in the Mid-18th century by Palace cook to John Billet, a master baker in nearby Richmond.

And in Newens Tea House in Starhill, NEWENS chief baker- Chef Nathan flew 6,500 miles from Malaysia to London to learn the secret recipe for Maids of Honour tarts. He had tutored personally under Newens’ London pastry chef, Kostadin Mitrev and thus now Malaysians can now rightfully claim that we have the authentic Maid Of Honour tarts in the country.
NEWENS TEA HOUSE

And this time, we had the High Tea For Two that comes with maids of honour tarts, freshly baked scones (plain & fruits), clotted cream and preserves, assorted sandwiches, macaroons, pastries, fruit tarts and a pot of tea.

It is serves in 3 layers where the top comes with those sweet items like pasteries, macaroons, and fruit tart. The middle layer will be the scones and sandwiches and lastly the below tray comes with the maids of honours and sandwiches too. Every item is indeed well made and deliciously done.
NEWENS TEA HOUSE
The cute little buns with the choice of tuna, ham and also salmon which is served is awesomely good. Each mouthful comes packed with the light crunchiness and ingridients are fresh. Love them.

On the second layer, we had the scones which is simply good and double thumbs up. Together with it is the Maids of Honour tart which is heavenly. The curd cheese in the middle is light and creamy that it literally melts in your mouth. The pastry surrounding it crumbles nicely in every bite.

And the top layer comes with the mini tarts and macaroons. I am just falling in love with the macaroons which is perfectly done where it brings you the light crunchy bites on the skin and moist in the middle.
NEWENS TEA HOUSE

We are served with the Newen’s signature green tea with mango and citrus. It’s a special blend for this branch and they call it the Starhill Jewel tea. The tea comes simply soothing with the complete fragrance and flavourful taste but not too strong.
For those who are looking for a quality tea time, Newens Tea House is of course a great place for one. Asides from the traditional style of Afternoon Tea; one can also get a try on the Oriental Style of Tea. Some of the offerings from Newens Tea House as below :
