Ring in the Year of the Snake with Golden Phoenix at EQ Hotel

January 1, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

As we usher in the Year of the Snake, the renowned EQ Hotel brings back one of its most cherished dining traditions—the Golden Phoenix. This legendary Cantonese culinary icon, originally established in the 1970s at the former Hotel Equatorial, is set to captivate diners once again in January 2025. Golden Phoenix has been a hallmark of Cantonese cuisine for over five decades, and its return each year is highly anticipated by food lovers and festival-goers alike.

An annual pop-up event, Golden Phoenix embodies themes of transformation and rebirth, mirroring the symbolism of the Year of the Snake. Guests are invited to indulge in an extraordinary gastronomic journey that celebrates the essence of heritage while introducing modern, innovative dishes. Golden Phoenix offers an exquisite menu that masterfully combines traditional flavors with contemporary flair, ensuring every dish is a masterpiece. Here are some of the highlights that await you:

Signature Prosperity Toss: Ten-Piece Abalone Yee Sang

The centerpiece of any Chinese New Year feast is the Yee Sang, and Golden Phoenix elevates this tradition with its Ten-Piece Abalone Yee Sang. Featuring plump, tender abalone complemented by an array of fresh, vibrant ingredients, this dish is perfect for tossing in prosperity and good fortune with family and friends. For those seeking variety, Golden Phoenix offers other premium options, including Norwegian Salmon with Jellyfish, Fabulous Fruit Yee Sang with Red Dragonfruit Sauce, Fresh Canadian Geoduck and Austrian Lobster

Prices range from RM128 (small portion) to RM668 (large portion for 6–10 persons), ensuring a Yee Sang option for every gathering.

Double-Boiled Chicken Soup with Matsutake Mushroom and Fish Maw

Start your feast with this nourishing soup, brimming with the rich flavors of premium ingredients. The delicate matsutake mushrooms and fish maw add both depth and nutrition. Love every  sip of the soup.

Steamed Tiger Grouper with Cordyceps Flower and Red Dates

The Tiger Grouper is steamed to perfection, with its tender, flaky meat subtly enhanced by the sweetness of red dates and the earthy aroma of cordyceps flowers.

Applewood-Smoked Chicken Roulade with BBQ Sauce

This innovative dish features tender chicken roulade, delicately smoked with applewood and paired with a tangy BBQ sauce. The addition of fresh mesclun lettuce provides a refreshing balance to the smoky flavors.

Wok-Fried Tiger Prawns with Dark Soy Sauce

A perennial favorite, these Tiger Prawns are wok-fried to golden perfection and coated in a caramelized dark soy glaze. The dish balances savory and sweet notes, with the freshness of the prawns taking center stage.

Braised Whole Sea Cucumber with Dried Oyster and Sea Moss

This luxurious dish represents wealth and prosperity, featuring tender sea cucumber, flavorful dried oysters, and nutrient-rich sea moss.

Braised Seafood with Noodles in Crab Meat Sauce

Celebrate longevity with this comforting dish, where rich crab meat sauce coats perfectly cooked noodles, complemented by a medley of fresh seafood.

Golden Phoenix Rice Cake & Chilled Peach with White Fungus and Red Dates & Baked Peony Lotus Seed Pastry
