Wall’s Malaysia marks International Day of Happiness by spreading cheer through distribution of 50,000 ice creams

March 30, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

To mark International Day of Happiness this 20 March, Wall’s Malaysia is celebrating its second year of partnership with the UNSDSN World Happiness Report. The partnership continues to build momentum for the brand’s mission to make the world a happier, more inclusive place, one street at a time.

In addition, Wall’s also released its own research entitled the “Wall’s Manifesto for a Happier World” which was conducted in 2020, surveying a total of 12,500 people from 12 different countries. The aim of the manifesto is to discover how happiness is recognised as a marker for social progress in the participating country. The research findings revealed that:

• 67% now feel more open/inclined to proactively offer social support to members of my community

• 65% say interactions with people during lockdown changed their outlook on happiness

• 62% said that lockdown has made them feel more a part of their community

• 58% found human connection is what really makes them happy

• 51% feel their neighbours play a more important role in my life than ever before

The “Wall’s Manifesto for a Happier World” has become the backbone for Wall’s Malaysia’s CSR pledge campaign which seeks to spread happiness and allow Malaysians to “taste the joy”.

Spreading The Manifesto Of Happiness

In conjunction with International Day of Happiness, Wall’s Malaysia is spreading happiness by distributing 50,000 sticks of ice cream to frontliners and underprivileged communities across Klang Valley. The distribution of Wall’s ice creams will be done from March – April 2021.

“Wall’s Malaysia has always played a part in making the world a happier and more inclusive place. We hope that our well-loved variants of ice creams can help put a smile on the faces of Malaysians, even through these challenging times. To kick off our happiness movement in 2021, we are spreading happiness by giving away free ice cream to the community. Through this simple gesture of distributing 50,000 ice creams, we want to show appreciation to our fellow frontliners for their continuous hard work, as well as help communities who have been severely underserved during these times. This includes children from orphanages and communities who rely on the goodwill of non-governmental organisations and food banks,” said Shiv Sahgal, Marketing Director of Foods & Refreshments category for Unilever Malaysia.

The initiative began in March 2021 with the distribution of ice cream to the underprivileged communities, done through non-governmental organisations, namely Pitstop Café, Kechara Soup Kitchen and PERTIWI.

This was followed by the spreading of happiness at different hospital locations across Klang Valley as a token of heartfelt appreciation for their relentless efforts in helping Malaysians through the Covid-19 pandemic. The hospitals who were recipients of the ice creams include Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Putrajaya, Hospital Banting and many more.

“We are heartened to see how communities across the world are starting to gradually emerge from lockdowns and physical distancing, amidst regulations to ensure that proper guidelines and SOPs are followed. With this in mind, Wall’s Malaysia is committed to keeping our local community’s spirit alive, ensuring that all we learnt is not lost as we build back happier and stronger as a nation, one ice cream at a time,” concluded Shiv Sahgal.
