POKC (PEOPLE OF KHENG CHEW) @ DAMANSARA UPTOWN

POKC
POKC ; a simple name but yet it stands for People of Kheng Chew. The term itself is describing describe Hainanese, or those from the Kheng Chew or Hainan province in China. The restaurant which had launched a few months back is located at the busy square of Damansara Uptown, the restaurant is set up on the quieter and less frequent street facing the LDP Highway, which is the same row with A Pie Thing and Epicuro.

It’s tastefully furnished with a mismatched bunch of chairs and stools in various styles. The place comes with lovely sitting which I could not expect so beautifully done for a Hainanese Restaurant, with the twist of a western Cafe a like. They have scarred wooden tables downstairs, while at the upstairs they have huge tables which can seat up to ten people or even big family. As for the menu, they brings us with the classic Hainanese delights

Being in a Hainanese Restaurant, you will be assured for one of the Hainanese Famous food which is the Roti Babi. Served with complete juiciness with the minced pork in pieces is stuffed with the fried bread. It is such a divine with loads of chunks of minced pork in the bread itself and every mouthful is sinfully good as it is.

For their Lamb Stew (RM25.00), it is indeed well cooked for hours served with the choice of rice or bread. Either one is just as good as it is where you love to drench the creamy lamb stew gravy to your rice or even to dip the bread into the gravy. Awesomely good! The lamb stew comes with the generous chunks of tender meat, carrots and potatoes in a bowl of thick creamy gravy. Its sinfully good delights does not disappoint me though where every mouthful is just as good as it is and the lamb does not appear to have the blend of gammy taste in it.

The Cordon Bleu Koi (RM 25.00) is well served with the deep fried breaded Chicken Chop wrapped around pork ham, and cheese, sweet potato fries and mixed vegetable with the lovely brown sauce at the side. The wholesome delight is just as good as it is where the cordon bleu comes crispy at the skin and inside it remains is moist and cheesy flavours.

Kheng Chew Curry Koi (RM18.00)

Have an option of Hainanese white bread to dip with, or douse the curry gravy over a bowl of white rice. The gravy is thick and creamy. I love the way how it is served.

Pork Chop comes very meaty and the texture is firm and yet not dry. Well done with the drizzled of the tomato sauce that brings us a appetizing flavours. Served with frs as well as vegetables with it.

Vanilla Mille Crepe (RM13.00)

Asides from the mains, POKC do served a good selection of cakes and coffee too. They have a gppd range of homemade mille Crepes in many flavours such as vanilla, salted caramel, rum & raisin and Malibu Dream; or delicious Chocolate Truffle Cake, Chocolate Brownie or Carrot Cake, priced between RM11 to RM15.

For a coffee lover, try their ice cream and in here they also use Inside Scoop Ice cream too. You can easily get them at RM8.50 per scoop. Flavours available are Coconut Sorbet, Teh Tarik and Vanilla Bean. We happily indulged in POKC Coconut Affogat. where the fragrant blend of coffee is sserved with the mix of the Inside Scoop Coconut Sorbet two shots of freshly pulled espresso. Nice one. I love the taste of the sweet bitter blend with the hint of coconut aroma with it.

Not just that, POKC also served good coffee where they are using the beans provided by Papa Pahelta, the well-known Singapore roastery who also runs PULP at Bangsar, Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee Shop in Singapore.

I love how the coffee is served with good beans and its silkiness of the coffee itself.
