A Grand Ramadan Feast at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur: Citra Selera Timur & Barat

March 4, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

As Ramadan 2025 approaches, the spirit of togetherness and gratitude fills the air. It is a time of reflection, devotion, and cherished gatherings with family and friends. To make this holy month even more special, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur invites guests to embark on an extraordinary culinary journey with its Citra Selera Timur & Barat buffet. This grand dining experience, available daily from 28 February to 30 March 2025, promises a feast of flavors that beautifully blends Eastern and Western culinary traditions with a special emphasis on Middle Eastern delights.

The theme, which translates to “A Timeless Symphony of Flavours”, encapsulates the essence of this luxurious iftar experience. Set in a bazaar-like atmosphere, the dining venue transforms into a vibrant space reminiscent of a traditional marketplace, where guests can explore a diverse array of dishes, live cooking stations, and specialty delicacies. Whether one craves authentic Malay classics, rich Arabian specialties, or Western favorites, this buffet offers a remarkable gastronomic adventure that caters to all palates.

A Culinary Journey Through Cultures

At the heart of this buffet is the Craving Station, where succulent roasted meats take center stage. Guests can indulge in a Baked Whole Lamb with Spices, slow-roasted to golden perfection, offering crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat. Equally tantalizing is the Kambing Golek Berempah, an aromatic spiced roasted lamb that pairs exquisitely with an assortment of sauces. For those who appreciate premium cuts, the Slow Roasted Beef Tomahawk is a must-try, cooked to perfection to retain its juiciness and rich flavor.

Moving on to the Hot Dishes, the buffet presents a selection of iconic Malaysian and Middle Eastern specialties. Highlights include Nasi Ulam Diraja, a fragrant, herb-infused rice dish from Malaysia’s east coast, and Lamb Kabsa, a Middle Eastern delicacy featuring slow-cooked lamb served atop spiced basmati rice. Seafood lovers will delight in the Udang Galah Lemak Asam Nenas, where large river prawns are simmered in a creamy coconut curry infused with the tangy sweetness of pineapple. Meanwhile, the Ayam Bakar Percik Pantai Timur, a smoky grilled chicken marinated in coconut milk and spices, offers a burst of flavor in every bite. Other standout dishes include Fasolia, a comforting Middle Eastern lamb stew, and Chicken Adana Kebab, a Turkish specialty of grilled minced chicken seasoned with bold spices.

Beyond these hearty entrées, an exquisite selection of appetizers sets the stage for an indulgent dining experience. Malay classics such as Lemang Pulut Susu, Rendang Itik, and Otak-Otak offer a taste of tradition, while Middle Eastern mezze dishes like Babaganoush, Turkish Tabouleh, and Hummus Beiruti provide a delightful variety of textures and flavors. Paired with freshly baked Arabic bread and premium olive oil, these starters prepare guests for the feast that follows.

A Global Bazaar of Delicacies

To further elevate the buffet, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur presents a selection of international delights, ensuring a truly diverse culinary experience. The Shawarma Station serves marinated chicken, slow-roasted and thinly sliced, wrapped in warm pita bread with crisp vegetables and flavorful sauces. The Noodles Station offers comforting broths, with rotating options such as Soto Ayam, Assam Laksa, and Nyonya Kari Mee, each prepared to order. Meanwhile, the Pasta Station showcases an interactive experience where Mac & Cheese is flambéed in a giant parmesan wheel, adding a touch of indulgence.

For seafood enthusiasts, the Fresh Seafood on Ice display is a highlight of the buffet. Guests can feast on Boston Lobsters, Fresh Oysters, Blue Mussels, and Slipper Lobsters, along with other premium shellfish. The Sushi & Sashimi Counter further enhances the spread, featuring an assortment of freshly prepared Japanese delicacies.

An Irresistible Selection of Desserts

No Ramadan feast would be complete without a spectacular array of desserts. The buffet features Middle Eastern delights such as Turkish Kunafa, a crispy pastry layered with melted cheese and soaked in sweet syrup, as well as Baklava, a classic flaky pastry with a rich nut filling. Guests can also enjoy Layali Lubnan, a fragrant Lebanese semolina pudding topped with honey and pistachios.

For those who favor international sweets, the selection includes Crème Brûlée, Parisian Flan, Raspberry Pistachio Moelleux, and Rose Lychee Profiterole. Meanwhile, Churros with Chocolate, Cinnamon & Salted Caramel Sauce add a touch of indulgence to the dessert table. Traditional Malaysian favorites, such as Kolak Pisang Butir Nangka, a comforting banana and jackfruit dessert in coconut milk, ensure that every guest leaves with a satisfied sweet tooth.

An Atmosphere of Elegance and Celebration

The Citra Selera Timur & Barat buffet is more than just a meal—it is an immersive experience that celebrates the spirit of Ramadan. To enhance the ambiance, guests will be serenaded by a live two-piece band, creating a warm and festive environment for breaking fast. The buffet will be served across Mosaic, Lounge On The Park, and the Diamond Ballroom, offering a luxurious setting that perfectly complements the exquisite culinary offerings.
