KFC Malaysia Introduces Its First Local Flavoured Streetwear Collection

August 31, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

There’s something hot cooking in Colonel Sanders’ kitchen. For the first time, KFC Malaysia collaborates with home-grown streetwear brand, Pestle & Mortar Clothing (PMC) to introduce an 11 Finger Lickin’ Good Goods – a streetwear collection that pays homage to KFC’s heritage in Malaysia.

This KFC x PMC collection comprises 11 goods – a clever spin on Colonel Sanders’ 11 secret herbs and spices. Using Malaysia’s unique art style and local lingo, PMC interpreted KFC Malaysia’s origins on apparel and gave it a contemporary streetwear twist.

“Malaysia has been KFC’s home for more than 46 years. This National month, we wanted to do something out of the ordinary to celebrate Malaysia, Malaysians and KFC’s heritage in Malaysia. With the rise in streetwear trend, the idea of a collaboration with Pestle & Mortar Clothing, popular home-grown pioneers in streetwear fashion known for championing South East Asian art style, was spot on. The result is a collection that creatively highlights the brand’s heritage and the common connections that KFC has built with Malaysians since 1973. Inspired by Malaysians, made by Malaysians for Malaysians,” said Angelina Villanueva, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC Malaysia.

“More than just a design, each garment tells a story of what KFC means to each and every Malaysian, from the beautiful Jalan Larut KFC on a Tee, to the playful ‘Atuk’ nickname bestowed upon the Colonel, even right to the pressure cooker, there is a memory that resonates with everyone,” said Hugh Koh, Co-founder and Creative Director, Pestle & Mortar Clothing.

Since the collection was made for Malaysians, it is only fitting that all proceeds go back to the people through Add Hope Malaysia – KFC’s global corporate social responsibility initiative to end hunger.

The collection will be released on the 5th of September at Major Drop, Sunway Pyramid and online at pestlemortarclothing.com. Be warned though, it’s a limited edition collection.

Check out the full collection at kfc.com.my/pestlemortarclothing. Just like KFC’s 11 secret herbs and spices, these 11 Finger Lickin’ Good Goods will make you drool like you’re drooling over a bucket of Original Recipe fried chicken.

The Collection: 11 Finger Lickin’ Good Goods by KFC x PMC

1. Atuk Sanders Tee

This tee puts Colonel Sanders or Atuk (grandfather), as referred to by Malaysians, in traditional getup, cementing his status as a true-blue Malaysian. And in true Malaysian fashion, he was not dressed for the weather, but he sure looks good.

2. KFC x PMC Flying Mechanic Tee

The KFC x PMC Flying Mechanic Tee features two classic designs in a single t-shirt – the iconic KFC Bucket logo on your heart and the signature PMC Flying Mechanic logo across your back, perfect for those who like it O.G.

3. Kepci Jalan Larut Tee

The Kepci Jalan Larut Tee invites you to experience KFC cara Malaysia (the Malaysian way) by repping the ‘Kepci’ nickname. The tee also pays tribute to the iconic KFC restaurant in Jalan Larut, Penang.

4. Kebaya Lady Hoodie

With her trilingual taglines, this hoodie is a celebration of multicultural Malaysians who are always in the mood for good grub. We may speak different tongues, but we speak the same language when it comes to good chicken.

5. Nostalgia Hoodie

The Nostalgia Hoodie takes us back to the first KFC restaurant to open its doors in Malaysia, giving the rakyat (people) taste of the O.G. fried chicken. Times have changed, but our love for Atuk’s (Colonel Sanders) Original Recipe remains.

6. The Complete Meal Bowling Shirt

From the Atuk to Kebaya Lady, the Complete Meal Bowling Shirt puts all the things we love onto a single shirt – rojak (mixed), just like Malaysia. It also makes for a perfect conversation starter with other fellow fried chicken lovers.

7. Bow Tie Bomber

The Bow Tie Bomber puts this collaboration in full throttle with elements of KFC, PMC and Malaysia, married into one slick bomber jacket. This piece is tied together with the Colonel’s bow tie placed right over your fried chicken-loving heart.

8. Golden Perfection Baseball Cap

The Golden Perfection Baseball Cap showcases what KFC is all about: good, golden and glorious fried chicken sitting snug in our iconic bucket. The buckleside takes us back to the old school with the O.G Kentucky Fried Chicken logo.
9. O.R Reversible Bucket Hat

Nak Ori ke Spicy? (Do you want Original or Spicy?) Get it both in this reversible O.R Bucket Hat that ends the argument no matter which side you’re on. The answer is they both rock.

10. Under Pressure Tote Bag

They say pressure makes diamonds. At KFC, pressure makes glorious fried chicken. Designed like an old Malaya brand, the Under Pressure Tote Bag showcases KFC’s iconic pressure cooker with multilingual taglines on the flipside.

11. Dinner Plate Pins

The Dinner Plate Pins collection gives you the complete KFC Malaysia experience by giving you a tray of Malaysia favourites: Original Recipe Drumstick, Cheezy Wedges and of course, a bucket of KFC Chicken.
