KUALA LUMPUR’S SUNWAY PUTRA HOTEL RINGS IN THE AUSPICIOUS YEAR OF THE RED FIRE MONKEY IN A SIZZLING CELEBRATION WITH GUESTS, CLIENTS AND MEDIA

January 27, 2016 By StrawberrY Gal - Food Promotion Leave a Comment

In celebration of the most significant event in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, Chinese New Year, Sunway Putra Hotel unveiled a series of exciting dining programs for guests to rejoice with friends and family at the hotel today.
Kicking off the festive spirit, Sunway Putra Hotel ushered in the Year of the Red Fire Monkey, in a typical sizzling celebration with acrobatic lion dance performances, the writing of a Chinese calligraphy saying that symbolises hope for the new year by famous Chinese Calligraphy artist Adam Ng and “Yee Sang” tossing with its corporate clients, media, partners and affiliates.
Hosted by Augustine M. Silva, Senior General Manager, Sunway Putra Hotel and accompanied by Sunway Hotels & Resorts’ Cluster Director of Operations, Kelly Leong, the celebration marked the official opening of the month long promotions and programs for this auspicious lunar festival at the hotel.
“We hope 2016 will be a great year for everyone, filled with an abundant health, wealth and happiness. As Sunway Putra Hotel opened its doors fully recently after having gone through a refurbishment exercise that lasted almost two (2) years, it’s about time we introduce you to the changes we have brought to our facilities and services. And, what better way to do this than in conjunction with the 2016 Chinese New Year celebration,” said Augustine.
The event also saw the hotel celebrating the dawn of Chinese New Year with 25 underprivileged children from The Shepherd’s Centre Foundation Malaysia as part of its “Time To Give”, corporate social responsibility program. The children were presented with red angpow packets by Augustine and were later treated to the sumptuous meal at the Coffee House along with other guests and partners.
This year, Chinese New Year at Sunway Putra Hotel promises to be decadent and opulent. The hotel’s skillful culinary team led by Chef Cheong Chee Seng, Head Chinese Chef, has pulled all stops to ensure guests are treated to an international feast not just for the palate but also for the eyes.
First off, is the serving of the traditional Yee Sang with fresh salmon slices on a one-of-a-kind majestic ice sculpture that will offer a creative option for the reunion dinner diners. The team has also crafted a special buffet feast with a contemporary twist that has ten (10) headlining counters; Appetisers and Salad, Yee Sang Counter, Soup, Hot Spot, Pasta and Noodles, Pizza of the Day, Dim Sum, Japanese Favourites, Hot Dishes and Desserts.
The Appetisers and Salad counter features delights such as Minced Chicken with Thai dressing Salad, Chicken Barbeque in Platter and, Oyster and Green Mussels on Ice served with lemon wedges and Tabasco sauce. This is followed by the Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng and Hot and Sour Szechuan Soup with Crab meat at the Soup counter. The Hot Spot Counter will feature a special Mongolian Barbeque option and the carving station will feature special Homemade Meatloaf.
A must-try on the list would be the mouth watering Pipa Chicken and Peking Duck Pizza and the rich Asian Seafood Buttered Spaghetti from the Western counter. Meanwhile, Chef Cheong Chee Seng recommends, not leaving the buffet without trying out the Black Pepper Beef and the Teo Chew Braised Duck with Egg.
“Reunion dinners are normally eaten with family and loved ones, but these days due to the hectic times, many families choose to eat out. Therefore, at Sunway Putra Hotel, we have endeavoured to cook all the Chinese New Year specials as authentically as possible, just like how you would cook at home,” explained Chef Cheong.
For those hankering for something sweeter, a refreshing conclusion awaits, with delicacies such as Coconut Lemon Velvet Cake, Sugi Almond Cake, Lotus Pancakes, Banana Caramelised Tarts and Green Tea Red Bean Chocolate Cake among others.
Sunway Putra Hotel’s “2016 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner” buffet will be available on 7 February 2016 from 6.00pm to 10.30pm at the Coffee House on Level 9. The buffet is priced at only RM108 nett per person for adults and RM 54 nett per child between six and 12 years old.
For guests preferring to host their own private ‘Chinese New Year’ gathering, the hotel is offering a Toss to Prosperity Menu – a nine (9) course dinner priced at only RM 1888 nett for a table of ten. A minimum booking of 20 people is advised for the private dinner packages.
Catering to Japanese food lovers, the Gen Japanese Restaurant at Sunway Putra Hotel, will also be serving a special Chinese New Year Eve Bento for only RM 128 nett per person and RM 64 nett per child between six and 12 years old. This promotion is available from 7 to 9 February 2016 at the Gen Restaurant, at 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm for lunch and 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm for dinner.
Meanwhile, for guests looking to purchase dry Yee Sang, they can do so at the Atrium Lounge, Level 9 of the hotel. Yee Sang is priced at RM 68 nett and the Salmon Yee Sang is priced at RM 88. Both types of Yee Sang serve four to five people per box. To support the green initiative, the Yee Sang will be packed in reusable food storage containers.
