SIME DARBY LPGA MALAYSIA WIDENS ITS CULINARY HORIZONS IN 2015

August 7, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

With a host of new initiatives planned both on and off the golf course, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2015 promises four fun-filled days of entertainment with live DJs and food stalls, as well as its very first KL Food Truck Festival. Open to the public from 8-11 October, from 7.30am to 6pm, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of authentic local fare as well as other international cuisine such as Mexican, French, Italian and the well-loved American BBQ. Produced by some of KL’s best-loved chefs, the gastronomic specialities will be sold from iconic food trucks stationed within the tournament concourse. With prices capped at RM 10- per dish – and a free dish included in the ticket price – the initiative will bring a new dimension to the tournament, ensuring a feast of entertainment both on and off the fairways of the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).

KL Food Truck Festival Organiser, Jeff Little said, “We’re delighted to have been invited to showcase our unique creations at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia this year. Part of Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia’s aim is to make this event an accessible and enjoyable experience for all, and we’re very excited and proud to be a part of it this year. As culinary professionals, it’s our job to ensure that customers leave with an experience they’ll always remember, and I think Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia aims to do just that as well, so it’s a very good fit all round.”

The chefs will be showcasing a variety of dishes for all to enjoy, including vegetarian options and treats for the little ones. Burger Giler Power offers visitors a blend of Malaysian styled western street food such as the Oystershroom Chicken Mushroom Burger with Salad and the TOOnaMUCHroom BeefBurger. Carnivores can enjoy dishes from the BBQ, Italian and French food trucks, with firm favourites such as Homemade Crusty French Loaf with Slow Smoked Beef Brisket, Half Dozen Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings tossed in Garlic Parmesan/BBQ Sauce, Meatballs in a cup with bread and various pastas such as Bolognaise, Carbonara, Aglio Oglio, Chicken Confit and Grilled Fish. Vegetarians can indulge in gourmet Western/European dishes
such as Garlic Butter Broccoli and Cauliflower, Cauliflower and Broccoli Gratin and Ratatouille by Chef Kenneth Sim, formally trained in Switzerland, England and Australia.

Speaking about the initiative, General Manager at KLGCC, Steven Thielke said, “In recent years, Malaysia has established itself as the street food capital of Asia and home to a host of renowned culinary events such as Malaysia International Gourmet Festival and KL Big Kitchen Festival. With food being such an important part of Malaysian culture, we wanted to ensure KL’s favourite pastime would be prominently featured in the nation’s favourite golf event.”

“We’ve looked to incorporate a lot more into the four day event, such as the KL Food Truck Festival, as well as the Courtyard and a fun and safe Kids Zone down by the swimming pool, which we hope will attract a different audience in addition to our regular golf fans. Our aim is to provide golfers and event-goers alike, with a more holistic experience at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2015”, added Thielke.
