COSMOPOLITAN HOTEL, COSMO HOTEL AND DORSETT MONGKOK, HONG KONG HONOURED WITH CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP LOGO AWARD 2014

Another feather in their caps for Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong, Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong and Dorsett Mongkok, Hong Kong this year, as they have recently been honoured with Corporate Citizenship Logo Award 2014 by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). This recognition celebrates the hotels’ ongoing outstanding achievements in implementing social responsibility through partnering with various social enterprises.

The one programme that took the centre stage and secured the hotels this much coveted recognition is none other than the pioneering One Family Programme – a programme designed to provide a unique learning opportunity for both hotel staff’s young family members and students who require special care with the goal to improve their status quo.

One Family Programme – Caring from Within. Caring for the Community
Introduced in 2012, One Family Programme is initially designed as an internal programme to benefit the hotel staff by providing internship opportunities for their young family members to understand more about the hotel industry and at the same time, learn to appreciate their parents or siblings’ work. This programme also provides golden opportunities for the hotel staff to enjoy precious parent-child or sibling relationships through a number of family-get-together outings. Understand the value of providing work-life balance solutions for their workforce, all three hotels introduce a series of staff benefits including 5-day works and birthday leave for their staff, a benefit which is considered revolutionary in the hotel industry. This part of the prorgamme is called “Caring from Within”.

To benefit the external communities, the hotels have partnered up with different charitable organisations such as Evangel’s Children Home and S.K.H.St. Christopher’s Home, whereby under this partnership, students from these organisations will be given priority for internship placements in the hotels. Given the uniqueness of these students, the internship programme has been tailored to suit the student’s individual learning needs. Each student receives personal guidance from a hotel mentor so that they can actually benefit from the opportunity to learn in a helpful atmosphere. This part of the programme is known as “Caring for the Community”.

The internship placement opportunity held twice per year and each training period spreads over 4 to 5 weeks’ time. All of them will be allocated to Front Office, Housekeeping Department or other relevant departments for comprehensive trainings. The major aim of this collaboration is to help equip the students with real-life work experience and to prepare them to the next stage after graduation

Unswerving Commitment to Serving the Community and Preserving the Environment
“This recognition reaffirms our unswerving commitment to serving the community. One Family Programme is a huge success. We’ve inspired countless of people along the way, the students, the staff, social workers as well as the public who learnt of this programme through the news. We’ve witnessed the changes we brought onto these students; the harmonious workforce we have created and more importantly, the message of caring and loving instilled in every person we’ve come into contact. I’d like to thank HKPC for appreciating our effort by honouring us with this recognition. We will continue to step up our corporate social responsibility effort in order to benefit more and more people in need,” said Ms. Anita Chan, the General Manager of three hotels.

As for the environmental protection aspect, both Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong and Dorsett Mongkok, Hong Kong are 100% smoke-free hotels with a series of green initiatives implemented in respective premises. Moving forward, they will be getting benchmarked by the world’s most credible sustainable tourism brand – EarthCheck. “Joining the EarthCheck will further solidify our commitments in achieving the highest level of sustainable operations and making social contributions that are beneficial to the guests, staff and local community,” said Ms. Chan.

The Shining Stars at The 4th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Programme Award Ceremony
Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Programme is one of the yearly notable award programmes held in the city by Hong Kong Productivity Council and co-organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE). The programme aims to encourage corporate to integrate the citizenship ideas into its business model and operation by organising a series of activities to raise the awareness of corporate citizenship and to encourage corporate to fulfill its social responsibilities. Cosmopolitan Hotel, Cosmo Hotel and Dorsett Mongkok are among the winning enterprises with notable corporate social responsibility performance to have received the Corporate Citizenship Logo Award 2014. The recipients of this recognition represents the best practices in their respectively fields and their contributions to the community are commendable by all key industry players.
