RESTAURANT TERAPUNG PULAU AMAN: FRESH SEAFOOD TIME

March 26, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

It was a pretty sunny day and we decided to make a move to Pulau Aman for a short trip. I have been hearing about the restaurant terapung but haven’t got a chance to go there to have a try of their food. Since, I am back to my hometown for a week, we decided to get a day to visit Pulau Aman and get a taste of their famous mee udang and seafood of course.
The journey to Pulau Aman takes about 45 minutes drives from the island itself.

Pulau Aman is a small island in Penang, Malaysia. Famously known as the “Island of Peace”, it is a home to a traditional Malay village. A lot of people visiting Pulau Aman for fishing or even trying the fresh seafood in the island itself.

Upon reaching, we went to the jetty and get the boat there. The boat is basically comes alternately every 15 – 30 minutes depends to customers. It takes about 10-15 minutes boat ride to reach the island itself. The island is pretty simple, which does not capture my heart though as the beach is not really clean as I expected it to be but seafood there is expectedly to be good.

The restaurant terapung in Pulau Aman is one of the famous restaurant there where they served mee udang with huge prawns and it is fresh. Besides from mee udang, they do have fried rice, fried koay teow, fried bihun and more. A choice of “Special” or “ Regular” plate of food can be choose here where “special” comes with 3 huge prawns (RM 10.00) and “regular” comes with one (RM 6.00).

The fried rice udang (RM 10.00)comes with 3 huge prawns and it is being stir fried with lots of pepper in it. The fried rice gives a blend of light spiciness and the robust flavors from the prawns is really tempting.

As for the bihun with 3 prawns (RM10.00) , the texture comes slightly wet compare to the Chinese fried bihun. It is good in its taste too where the flavours are well infused in to the noodles where it’s taste bring us with the sweet prawn taste and also the light blend of tomato puree in it.

The signature dish here is the Mee Udang where the yellow noodles are being topped with the bed of flavorful tomato sauce with the blend of chilly in it. With the sweet fresh prawns which are topped on top, it made the dish even nicer and more delicious too.

We are lucky that day where the fishermen are out to the sea that day. So, we can buy some fresh seafood there. Some of the seafood they have includes prawns, mantis prawns as well flower crab as well. Seasonal price but many says they are cheap.

We had the fresh prawns purchase at 1 kg and you can ask the restaurant to do the cooking and it is free of charge. We had the steam version of the prawns which it comes with the delicate sweet taste which comes from the freshness of the prawns itself. It is such an addictive dish and I don’t bother about the cholesterol level.
