Ormond Sandakan Welcomes Pietro, A New Mediterranean Dining Destination in Sabah

September 18, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

Ormond Sandakan introduces Pietro, its signature Mediterranean restaurant inspired by the coastal spirit of the region. Set against the backdrop of Sandakan Bay, Pietro officially welcomed guests in August 2026, introducing a relaxed yet elevated dining experience to Sabah.

Located within Ormond Sandakan, Pietro draws inspiration from the Mediterranean’s enduring relationship with the sea, celebrating simple, honest cooking rooted in fresh ingredients and warm hospitality. Guided by a menu that embraces bold yet approachable flavours, the restaurant brings together coastal influences with contemporary dining in a setting that feels both relaxed and refined.

Guests can expect a menu centred around:

• Fresh Seafood: Sustainably sourced seafood prepared with Mediterranean influences, celebrating the abundance of the sea.

• Pastas: Enjoy a variety of pasta offerings, from timeless favourites to signature creations crafted with quality ingredients.

• Produce-Forward Dishes: Seasonal vegetables and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, elevated with local Bornean touches.

• Signature Josper Flame: At the heart of Pietro’s kitchen is their Josper grill. Fuelled by natural charcoal embers, its closed-oven design seals in moisture while imparting a deep, signature smokiness and intense flavour to seafood, meats, and vegetables.

• Wood-Fired Pizzas: Freshly baked in Pietro’s wood-fired brick oven, delivering crisp crusts and classic Mediterranean flavours.

• A Taste of Borneo: Signature dishes infused with Sabahan and Bornean ingredients, creating a distinct expression of Mediterranean cuisine unique to Sandakan.

Overlooking Sandakan’s waterfront, Pietro is envisioned as a gathering place for both locals and travellers, a destination to linger over long lunches, sunset dinners and meaningful conversations by the sea. Its opening further strengthens Ormond Sandakan’s commitment to enriching the destination with distinctive experiences that celebrate the character, culture and charm of its surroundings.

To complement the dining experience, Pietro will offer a series of ongoing dining promotions, including the Mediterranean Set Lunch, featuring two courses at RM48++, with a choice of starter and main, available Monday–Friday, 11am–2:30pm, excluding Public Holidays, with dessert available for +RM18++ each. Every Wednesday from 6pm–10pm, Wednesday Wood-Fired Pizza Night invites guests to order two pizzas and enjoy the third on the house, applicable to regular-priced core pizzas, with the complimentary pizza applying to the item of equal or lesser value and not combinable with other ongoing promotions or discounts.

For weekend gatherings, Sunday Roast at Pietro is available every Sunday from 12pm–5pm, from RM68++, featuring Josper-Grilled Angus Striploin, Peri-Peri Half Chicken or Charcoal-Grilled Catch of the Day, served with Yorkshire pudding, garden salad and Josper-roasted potatoes, with a complimentary Kids’ Platter with every adult roast purchased for a limited time. Guests can also enjoy the Sandakan Seafood Platter – From Sea to Table, featuring tiger prawns, baby octopus, clams and a choice of flower crab or mud crab with a Mediterranean twist, available daily from 12pm–11pm at RM160++.

As Ormond Sandakan continues to enhance its guest experience, Pietro introduces a new culinary dimension to the property, becoming a go-to address for those seeking flavourful Mediterranean cuisine in Sandakan. Further information is available upon request.
