Bunn Choon is one of those establishments that has stood the test of time, long regarded as a reliable source of some of the tastiest egg tarts and dim sum in this part of Kuala Lumpur. Despite its longstanding reputation, it was only recently brought to my attention through a recommendation — a reminder that even well-known institutions can still be new discoveries to some.

The restaurant is located along Lorong Panggung, one of the more vibrant pockets of Petaling Street. The area is lively and colourful, characterised by a mix of personalities, cultures, and an impressive variety of dining options. It is a stretch where choice is abundant, and food enthusiasts are rarely short of options.

Bunn Choon’s egg tarts remain its most recognisable offering. Between the traditional and the slightly more modern versions, the traditional egg tart stood out as the preferred choice. That said, both variations feature a pleasingly flaky crust and a well-balanced filling. One can easily imagine the tarts being even more enjoyable when served fresh from the oven.
For those spending time in the Petaling Street area, Bunn Choon remains a worthwhile stop — a reminder of why some places continue to endure, quietly and consistently, over the years.
