A Taste of England with Heart: Lad & Dad Returns to KL with Proper Fish & Chips at Wisma Cosway

August 5, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

In the ever-evolving culinary tapestry of Kuala Lumpur, few eateries stand out for their simplicity done right!  and Lad & Dad is one of them. A name that’s familiar to food lovers in Singapore, this celebrated fish and chip brand has finally made its long-awaited return to the heart of KL, bringing with it a tale of heritage, passion, and truly satisfying comfort food

Tucked into the bustling ground floor of Wisma Cosway, the new 40-seater Lad & Dad outlet may seem modest in size, but it makes a bold statement in flavour and authenticity. The space is bright, unfussy, and carries the signature casual charm that has made Lad & Dad a go-to for those who appreciate a good plate of fish and chips without the frills  but with all the flavour.

From London Roots to Southeast Asia

The Lad & Dad story began in Singapore in 2015, when founder Keith Koh returned from his studies in the UK with more than just a diploma. He brought home a mission is to recreate the comforting British fish and chips he had come to love. Back home, the idea initially drew skepticism from his father. But over time, the “Lad” won over the “Dad,” and what started as a humble hawker stall has since grown into a multi-outlet success crowned by Michelin chefs and media as Singapore’s Best Fish & Chips.

Their first foray into Malaysia happened in mid-2024, with a limited-time appearance that quickly drew queues and accolades. Fans clamoured for more. A follow-up pop-up with Basic Wine Store only deepened the cravings. And now, in 2025, Lad & Dad is back in Kuala Lumpur  permanently.

The Fish & Chips We Deserve

At Lad & Dad, the spotlight is firmly on their signature fish and chips, and for good reason. Koh and his team take this British staple seriously. The fish is prepared daily to ensure it stays moist and fresh. Diners can choose between regional perch or premium Norwegian haddock, both enveloped in a crisp, golden batter that crackles with flavour. That batter, Koh shares, is a recipe perfected over time where it is  infused with seven herbs and spices to give it that special, savoury crunch.

The sides are just as considered. Choose between thick-cut chips that stay fluffy inside, or battered shoestring fries for a lighter crunch. Traditionalists will appreciate the mushy peas, classic tartar, and malt vinegar. But for Malaysians who like a bit of fire, KL-exclusive sauces like sambal aioli, curry sauce, and spicy tartar bring local flair to a British favourite.

A complete fish and chip set with approximately 150g of fish starts from a very reasonable RM29.90, offering both value and quality and something that’s hard to come by these days.

Final Thoughts

As we see more trend-driven cafés and viral menus pop up across Kuala Lumpur, Lad & Dad offers something refreshingly grounded. It’s proof that when done well, even the simplest dishes can capture hearts and earn a loyal following. Whether you’re craving a nostalgic bite or discovering fish and chips for the first time, this is a place that welcomes you like family  and feeds you like one too.

So the next time you’re wandering through KL city centre, do yourself a favour. Step into Wisma Cosway, grab a seat, and experience a little bit of England  and made with love, right here in Malaysia.
