ZUILONG @ SOLARIS MONT KIARA: ENJOY THE AWESOME

July 21, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

In the bustling gastronomic maze of Solaris Mont Kiara, where cafés and eateries jostle for attention, Zuilong Korean Chinese Cuisine quietly sets itself apart. This charming and contemporary eatery brings to the table a delicious culinary narrative that blends the rich, bold flavours of Korean fare with beloved Chinese classics—an often underrepresented fusion in the Klang Valley.

With stylish interiors bathed in soft lighting and minimalist wood tones, Zuilong offers a calming yet social dining atmosphere. It’s the kind of place you could walk into for a comforting bowl of noodles on a rainy day or return to for a casual gathering over drinks and shared plates. But it’s the food that will keep you coming back.

Macaron Shrimp Toast

Zuilong kicks things off on a playful note with its Macaron Shrimp Toast—a dish that immediately catches the eye. Shaped like delicate little macarons but fried to a golden crisp, these bites are filled with soft prawn mousse and served with two unlikely sauces: sweetened condensed milk and spicy chilli. It may sound odd, but the combination works. The chilli sauce elevates the savouriness of the seafood, while the condensed milk adds a silky sweetness that balances the crunchy, salty exterior. It’s quirky, addictive, and perhaps one of the most photogenic starters around.

Signature Set for 2–3 Pax: Jjangmyeon, Jjamppong & Tangsuyuk

The star offering here is undoubtedly the Signature Set Dish, curated for two to three diners. It’s a perfect trio of classic Korean-Chinese favourites that cover all bases—from earthy and comforting to spicy and sweet.

 Jjangmyeon (Black Bean Noodles)

Thick, chewy wheat noodles are slathered in a deep black bean sauce rich with diced pork and sautéed vegetables. The flavour is robust yet comforting, with the characteristic umami of fermented black bean paste softened by a subtle sweetness. It’s a dish that soothes the soul and satisfies any carb craving.

Jjamppong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup)

This fiery red broth is a revelation. Laden with fresh prawns, squid, mussels, and a generous kick of gochugaru (Korean chilli powder), the soup simmers with bold umami and oceanic sweetness. Each spoonful delivers a warming, peppery heat, while the noodles soak up the full-bodied flavours. For fans of spice, this is a must-order.

Tangsuyuk (Sweet & Sour Fried Pork)

The crispy pork bites arrive lightly battered and generously coated in a glossy sweet and sour sauce. What makes Zuilong’s version shine is the restraint—the sauce leans more tangy than sugary, offering a refreshing brightness that cuts through the richness of the fried meat. Crispy on the outside, tender within—this classic remains a crowd-pleaser.

Coconut Makgeolli

Thoughtfully Paired Drinks To round out the meal, Zuilong offers a small but curated selection of drinks, including a memorable Coconut Makgeolli, served chilled for two. The coconut gives a tropical twist to the creamy Korean rice wine, pairing surprisingly well with the bolder, spicier flavours on the menu. Also on the list is a delightful Pink Guava & Ribena mix—sweet, cooling, and fruity. It works wonders in cleansing the palate after a fiery mouthful of jjamppong. Final

Thoughts Zuilong delivers what many fusion concepts aspire to but few fully achieve: authenticity, creativity, and comfort in a single meal. It doesn’t try too hard—it lets its dishes speak for themselves. From the inventive shrimp toast to time-honoured classics like jjangmyeon and tangsuyuk, each dish is carefully executed and thoughtfully presented. Whether you’re a fan of Korean food, Chinese fare, or simply in search of a new culinary adventure in Mont Kiara, Zuilong Korean Chinese Cuisine is worth the visit. It’s comforting, stylish, and just the right amount of bold.
