Indulge in the Rich Flavors of Indonesian Heritage at Ibu Ruby’s

March 3, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

In a celebration of Indonesia’s vibrant culinary legacy, Ibu Ruby’s has unveiled a new set menu that pays tribute to the timeless traditions of Indonesian cuisine. Born out of the passion and expertise of Haji Mohd Imran—who was inspired by the home-cooked delights of his youth in Indonesia—and perfected by Ibu Ruby in Yogyakarta, this dining destination offers a truly immersive culinary experience. Whether you are enjoying an intimate meal for two or a festive feast for five, Ibu Ruby’s new set menus promise to transport you to the heart of Indonesia with every bite

A Journey Through Tradition: Imran’s Celebration Feast for Five

Designed specifically for a table of five, the Imran’s Celebration Feast is a masterful showcase of Indonesia’s diverse flavors. The feast is an elaborate spread that harmoniously blends bold spices, smoky grills, and comforting textures into a memorable dining experience. Each dish is crafted with precision, highlighting the soul of Indonesian cuisine and offering a perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and umami.

Seabass Bakar Sambal

The journey begins with Seabass Bakar Sambal—a beautifully grilled whole seabass that is both smoky and tender. The seabass is perfectly flaky, and the fiery sambal topping adds just the right level of heat to accentuate its natural sweetness, setting a high standard for the feast to come.

Udang Gulai Lemak

Next, the Udang Gulai Lemak offers a comforting, coconut-rich curry brimming with aromatic spices. The tender juicy prawns in a velvety broth enhanced by hints of turmeric and lemongrass, turning each bite into an indulgent experience.

10 Sticks Ayam Satay Madura

A highlight for any gathering is the Ayam Satay Madura. Ten succulent skewers of marinated chicken are grilled to perfection, each stick boasting a delightful char that pairs beautifully with a rich, velvety peanut sauce. This dish is a testament to the skillful use of traditional Indonesian flavors.

Daging Dendeng Minang

For a textural contrast, the Daging Dendeng Minang offers thinly sliced beef that is crispy on the edges yet tender in the center. Coated in a sweet and spicy sambal, the dish leaves a lingering warmth and an unforgettable burst of flavor on the palate.

Gado Gado

To balance the rich, hearty dishes, the vibrant Gado Gado is served—a medley of blanched vegetables, tofu, and tempeh generously draped in a thick, creamy peanut sauce. The freshness of the vegetables and the nutty depth of the sauce create a harmonious counterpoint to the spicier elements of the feast.

 Kacang Botol

For those who appreciate simplicity,  Kacang Botol features perfectly stir-fried winged beans tossed in a light, spiced sauce that preserves their natural crunch and flavor, complementing the other dishes without overwhelming the senses.

Kerabu Ikan Bilis

The Kerabu Ikan Bilis adds a tangy, umami-packed punch to the meal. Crispy anchovies mixed with fresh herbs and a zesty dressing deliver a burst of texture and flavor, making it an essential component of the celebration.

Terung Bakar

Another grilled delight, Terung Bakar, captivates with its deep caramelized flavor and smoky aroma. The grilled eggplant is juicy and tender, creating a standout dish that embodies the spirit of Indonesian street food with a touch of elegance.

To tie the feast together, the meal is perfectly complemented by a trio of Sambals. With varying levels of spice and tang, these condiments allow diners to customize each bite, ensuring a personalized dining experience that speaks to the unique palate of every guest.

A harmonious finale is provided by the staple sides—fluffy steamed rice that soaks up the rich sauces, offering the ideal base for the myriad flavors on your plate.

A Must-Try Signature: Nasi Ayam Penyet

No Indonesian feast would be complete without a nod to comfort food classics. Nasi Ayam Penyet is a standout dish, highly recommended by the staff. The crispy fried chicken is succulent on the inside with an irresistibly crunchy golden crust. Served with a spicy sambal, fresh vegetables, tofu, and tempeh, it encapsulates the essence of Indonesian home cooking—a perfect blend of bold spices, satisfying textures, and deeply aromatic flavors.

A Sweet Ending: Pisang Bakar

The celebration concludes on a sweet note with Pisang Bakar—a dessert that is as indulgent as it is nostalgic. Grilled bananas are caramelized to perfection, their smoky, sweet flavors enhanced by a velvety scoop of Bulla vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of rich palm sugar. Topped with crushed roasted pistachios and served in a charming coconut shell, this dessert is a delightful fusion of warm and cold textures that leaves a lasting impression.

A Culinary Tribute to Heritage

Ibu Ruby’s new set menus are a heartfelt homage to traditional Indonesian cooking. With a well-curated selection of dishes that capture the depth, diversity, and vibrancy of Indonesian flavors, these menus are designed to bring people together. Whether you are dining as a duo or as part of a larger celebration, each dish is a testament to a culinary heritage that has been lovingly preserved and innovatively reinterpreted.
