HappyFresh teams up with Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G) to bring its exceptional range of local and international brands online

January 26, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

Shoppers can now purchase their groceries online from Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.), one of Malaysia’s leading premium supermarkets chain on HappyFresh.

“Our customers have really taken to getting their favourite grocery items picked and delivered for them, especially since the Covid pandemic made us all stay at home.

Therefore, we are delighted for our B.I.G. customers to now be able to access their favourites through our partnership with HappyFresh Malaysia. We hope this will enable more customers to access B.I.G.’s exceptional range of local and international delicacies which now includes over 300 exclusive lines from Waitrose UK” said Geoff King, CEO of The Food Purveyor that currently operates four supermarket brands Village Grocer, Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.), BSC Fine Foods, and Pasaraya OTK.

Hu Hun Hui, Managing Director of HappyFresh Malaysia says: “We are delighted to have B.I.G. on board. This partnership could not have come at a better time given the recent Movement Control Order that has been reinstated. We are always looking to add variety to our platforms and B.I.G. provides our customers with an array of imported groceries and adds to the number of supermarkets to choose from when looking to stock up on their groceries. Hopefully, this will also help curb panic buying from occurring at physical stores across the country.”

B.I.G., currently in operations in selected areas within Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, offers a wide range of imported consumables and essentials. Shoppers are provided with a unique grocery shopping experience through themed sections within their stores that showcase their wide range of specialised ingredients. B.I.G. also host live cooking demonstrations, events and other fun-filled family activities amongst many.

HappyFresh is Southeast Asia’s leading online grocery delivery company that allows consumers to shop from their preferred grocery chains via app and web platforms. Since it was founded in October 2014, HappyFresh has since strived to partner with well-known retail chains to give customers a varied selection of items at a range of price points. Their trained Personal Shoppers pick the best products, while the company’s advanced on- demand logistics network allows for same-day delivery.

Since the initial Movement Control Order (MCO), HappyFresh has taken steps to ensure consumers can get their groceries throughout the pandemic. HappyFresh has noticed a fall in spending power due to the pandemic and has since lowered their delivery fee, free for certain average basket size and removed their minimum spend threshold at various supermarkets and stores to make online grocery shopping affordable for various households within their operating markets.

HappyFresh has also been actively giving back to the community in 2020 and will continue their efforts throughout 2021. Among the recent efforts include a collaboration with Dreamr and The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) to deliver Christmas gifts to 100 autistic children of all ages around Kuala Lumpur. HappyFresh will also be looking to reactivate their donation campaigns to help those heavily affected by the lengthy pandemic situation in the country.
