What Happens When a Local Dish Gets a Remix? Secret Recipe Has the Answer

August 11, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

Malaysia’s rich food heritage has always been a reflection of our diverse culture and bringing people together through flavours, stories, and shared moments. This Merdeka Month, Secret Recipe celebrates the nation’s vibrant culinary identity with its all-new Merdeka Special Menu, a delightful Local Remix series inspired by familiar local spices that Malaysians know and love with Western-inspired creations.

In conjunction with Malaysia’s 69th Merdeka celebration, Malaysians are invited to come together to savour this exclusive fusion of flavours. Secret Recipe’s Local Remix series is bound to excite fans with one-of-a-kind new menu items, each with a fresh and nostalgic take. Whether it’s gathering with family, catching up with friends or ushering in the nation’s independence day, this series is bound to bring people together to share new experiences and embrace diverse cultures that make Malaysia truly special.

“Food has always been a meaningful part of Malaysian revelry and we are excited to introduce the Local Remix series as a flavourful showcase of Malaysia’s culinary diversity. Through this new offering, we hope to inspire Malaysians to discover the connection between culture and food, while gathering with their loved ones to enjoy new flavour experiences and create memorable moments together, said Ryan Chung, Marketing Manager at Secret Recipe.

The new menu offerings feature four creations, each inspired by iconic Malaysian flavours remixed with a contemporary twist. Customers can look forward to trying the Spiced Tandoori Chop with Mint Sauce (RM26.90), a pan-seared tandoori chicken chop served with golden wedges, refreshing raita and mint yoghurt sauce. For a comforting fusion experience, the Chicken Rendang Lasagne (RM25.90) consists of layers of pasta with rich chicken rendang, creamy rendang sauce and melted cheese for a cosy take on a well-loved classic.

Completing the line-up is the bold and flavourful Smoked Duck Rendang Mac & Cheese (RM26.90), featuring Macaroni in creamy rendang sauce with shimeji mushrooms and melted mozzarella cheese, topped with sliced smoked duck breast. The Seafood Asam Pedas Pasta (RM26.90) offers a spicy and tangy local asam pedas sauce with mussels, shrimp, baby scallops, and cherry tomatoes for a uniquely Malaysian pasta experience.

To complement the meal, customers can pair their favourite dishes with either the refreshing Peach Lychee Cooler (RM10.90) or Peach Strawberry Punch (RM10.90), creating the perfect mix-and-match combination for Merdeka celebrations.

Available from 1 August, the Local Remix series menu is available at all Secret Recipe outlets across Peninsular Malaysia, excluding AEON Mall Taiping and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz. Ready to discover your new favourite flavour combination? Visit your nearest Secret Recipe outlet and savour these Malaysian-inspired creations while they are available!
