Wonderfly launches ‘PROJECT SEA’ to conserve the wonders of our marine life

November 13, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

Fresh off the launch of their mobile app, Malaysian travel activities platform Wonderfly dives into their first CSR endeavour with Project SEA: Save the Environment & Animals. This is a collaborative effort with Aquaria KLCC and Boost, which aims to educate the public about the importance of marine conservation. It also hopes to raise donations to fund continuous conservation efforts by Reef Check Malaysia (RCM).

With a goal of RM10,000, Wonderfly has made a bold commitment to donate a portion of Aquaria KLCC ticket sales for 30 November to the cause. Concurrently, its e-wallet partner Boost will also be selling tickets on their app.

“We are excited to introduce our inaugural CSR initiative to give back. Marine conservation is such an important cause for our industry, and we are very fortunate to have Aquaria KLCC and Boost as our partners in this venture. With Project SEA, Aquaria KLCC visitors will have the opportunity to learn about marine conservation and their green initiatives whilst enjoying the Aquaria KLCC experience, purchased through Wonderfly’s paperless ticketing system,” Triston Puah, CEO of Wonderfly, says.

The wonders of clean beaches
Eco-tourism is a huge deal for Malaysia, but bad habits such as littering can pollute the beaches and jeopardise marine life. This can negatively affect the sector altogether. Fortunately, there are organisations like RCM established to tackle these issues.

RCM educates and collaborates with local communities to take the necessary steps to protect the marine ecology. Most recently in September 2019, RCM conducted a nationwide clean-up in 100 beaches and collected close to 35,000kg of rubbish including 137,865 plastic bottles, 77,075 food wrappers, and 59,418 cigarette butts .

“The headlines are all real. The oceans and beaches are in dire need of our help, and our marine life are suffering. It is crucial for brands to step up and do their part. We are grateful that Wonderfly believes in what we do and have chosen to honour us with the Project SEA initiative. The funds will be put to good use in our various conservation projects that we have all around the country, such as our community programmes and management of marine resources,” Julian Hyde, General Manager of RCM explains.

Besides contributing financially, the Wonderfly team will also do their part by participating in a beach cleanup at Pantai Tanjung Piai with RCM this month. Here, they will get to witness and understand the severity of the beach pollution first-hand. Project SEA will not only give the Wonderfly team and members of the public an opportunity to understand marine letter better, but it also helps them inculcate a culture of consciousness for the environment.

Join us on 30 November!
As a reward for purchasing those special tickets to visit Aquaria KLCC on 30 November, Wonderfly has a special school holiday event in store – with fun activities including performances by Didi & Friends mascots and sharing sessions by Reef Check Malaysia and celebrity guest Yasmin Hani.

“We are glad to be a part of Project SEA with Wonderfly. This is such a relevant cause for Aquaria. While we allow our customers to discover, learn, and experience the wonders of marine life within our facility, we also want to educate them on the importance of protecting our oceans where millions of precious marine life exists. We welcome everyone, especially families with young children, to join us on 30 November and learn how you can contribute to the conservation efforts through Project SEA,” Dato’ Simon Foong, Group Managing Director of Aquawalk Sdn Bhd shares.

Those who are interested can purchase special tickets to visit Aquaria KLCC and participate in the event on 30 November directly from the Wonderfly app (available on iOS and Android), on https://www.wonderfly.asia, and even with the Boost app. As the special event is exclusively for Wonderfly customers, walk-in customers who wish to participate can also purchase tickets from Wonderfly on the spot.

“Project SEA will only be the beginning for us. We look forward to introducing more programmes to address other issues affecting our tourism sector, whilst enabling our customers to experience exciting attractions at unbeatable prices through the convenience of the Wonderfly digital platforms,” Puah adds.
