One world hotel’s 2019 Chinese New Year lion dance performance

February 13, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

The Chinese New Year celebration continues with an auspicious lion dance performance at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya. Enthusiastic hotel guests, both foreign and local, were seen gathered at the lobby as early as 11am even before the troupe from Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association make an appearance.

With pulsating beat of drums and clashing cymbals, the acrobats and lions arrived in style. They make their way to various departments in the hotel to bless, spread positivity and cheer then headed to the lobby and dazzled everyone with their gravity – defying feats and balancing acts, leaping from one pole to another and finally secured the ‘cai qing’ (picking the greens to claim the reward).

Hotel General Manager Chris Niuh said, the lion dance has been on the hotel’s annual calendar of events since its opening a decade ago. To quote “Despite the economic slowdown, our hotel will continue with this tradition as we have done in the past”.

The event saw the presence of YBhg Puan Sri Cheng Gek Hong, hotel directors YBhg Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok, YBhg Tan Sri Teo Chiang Liang and family members. The celebration culminated with a traditional ‘’lou sang’ tossing and lunch.
Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion’s costume. The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity, and good luck.
