Padang is home to Minangkabau people of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Padang cuisine is one of the most popular food in Maritime Southeast Asia. Padang food which is also popular in neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore is famous for its rich taste of succulent coconut milk and spicy chilli. The distinct difference between Padang and Malay cuisine lies on the method of cooking of course, there are similar dishes by name, yet one or two main ingredients used in a Padang dish can give a totally different taste, texture and aroma.
Amongst signature Padang dishes are ayam pop, dendeng, kalio ayam, cumi balado, sup tulang rusuk, lau-ak taucho ikan, sambal udang petai, gulai jariang pucuk ubi, taruang balado and gulai sayur kapau. Other dishes include anyang pucuk paku, gado-gado, uwok pucuk ubi, rendang daging, sup ekor and gulai ikan lado api. Dessert section features godok batinta, kolak pisang, badak berendam, onde-onde and bubur pulut hitam.
