ISLAND SHANGRI-LA, HONG KONG LAUNCHES NEW MOONCAKE WITH THE PRECIOUS FLAVOUR OF SIX-DECADE DRIED TANGERINE PEEL

August 23, 2018 by StrawberrY Gal

For this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong presents the brand-new Deluxe Mini Mooncake with Red Bean Paste and 60-year Dried Tangerine Peel, as well as the ever-popular signature Seven-Star Mooncake, in addition to the Heep Hong Charity Mooncake and a variety of premium goodies for guests to celebrate the Moon Festival.

The newly launched Deluxe Mini Mooncake is made with red bean paste and the extremely precious 60-year dried tangerine peel. Also known as chen pi, dried tangerine peel is a Chinese herb commonly used in traditional recipes for its distinctive aroma and subtle citrusy flavour. Older dried tangerine peel is believed to boast more refined fragrance and better medicinal value and, hence, is also more valuable.

Tangerine peel aged for 60 years is among the finest grades that are exceptionally rare on the market. A bestseller since 2012, the Seven-Star Mooncake is the ultimate indulgence for mooncake lovers. Inside its elegant crimson-coloured box is one large White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with six egg yolks, surrounded by seven mini mooncakes.

The mini mooncake flavours include milk custard; white lotus seed paste with egg yolk; white lotus seed paste with pine nuts; vanilla bean custard; red bean paste with egg yolk; red bean paste with dried tangerine peel and chestnut with sweet potato.

Other Mid-Autumn goodies on offer at the hotel include the Deluxe Vanilla Bean Custard Mooncake – a sophisticated twist to the all-time favourite creamy custard filling – as well as the classic lotus seed paste and egg yolk mooncakes.

The Heep Hong Charity Mooncake is an initiative to raise funds for the hotel’s longterm charity partner, Heep Hong Society – one of Hong Kong’s largest service providers of early intervention and education for children with special needs. The mooncake box wrapper is designed with beautiful drawings painted by the children from Heep Hong Society and the box contains four pieces of White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Double Egg Yolks. All proceeds from the sale of this charitable mooncake will benefit Heep Hong Society’s diversified services and facilities.

Guests can enjoy discounts ranging from 10 to 25 per cent on purchases of 10 or more mooncake boxes (excluding the Heep Hong charity mooncake). In addition, guests will be entitled to a HKD200 dining voucher valid at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong for every purchase worth HKD4,000 (after discount).

Delivery service to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories may be arranged for HKD180, HKD240 and HKD350, respectively.

To place orders, guests may call Island Gourmet on (852) 2820 8551, send an e-mail to [email protected] or visit the mooncake display counter on level 5 of the hotel from now until 23 September 2018. Guests may also visit the online platform at
