Discover Selangor’s Nature Book Launch : A fruit of collaboration by an ecologist and a social educator

November 30, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd (TSSB) in collaboration with local ecologist, Goh Yong Chuan and social educator, Choong Baiqi have ventured into producing a book that highlights Selangor’s rich eco-friendly attractions.  The book was officially launched by YB Puan Elizabeth Wong, Chairman Standing Committee of Tourism, Green Technology, Consumer Affairs & Environment Of Selangor at the Sky Forest, Acappella Suite Hotel Shah Alam today.

The book which features Selangor as the country’s ‘eco-paradise’ of the west coast in Peninsular Malaysia, highlights eco-friendly attractions such as Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan and Sabak Bernam for its rich bio-diversity and eco-life systems.

This exclusive book, named “Terokai Kehijauan Selangor” is fully illustrated focusing on the ecology of Selangor state with actual field experiences and exploration written in Chinese and Malay languages by local ecologist, Goh Yong Chuan and social educator, Chuang Baiqi.

“Selangor has a vast eco-paradise and has some of the most diversified eco life in Peninsular Malaysia.  We should support eco-tourism and educate ourselves on how to protect our environment for everyone to enjoy for years to come,” said YB Puan Elizabeth Wong, Chairperson of Standing Committee, Tourism, Consumer Affairs & Environment of Selangor.

In recent years, the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Selangor Sdn. Bhd. have been actively promoting tourism in Selangor.  This include some second-tier cities such as Sekinchan in the Sabak Bernam district, a renowned fishing village with vast, well-irrigated and organized paddy fields that produce one the of the highest yields of rice in the country is a popular destination not only among local tourists but also draws attention from foreign visitors.

In recent years, “Eco-tourism” is one of the world’s most popular forms of tourism. However, our country’s “Eco-tourism” is facing certain degree of difficulty in its development due to lack of records and published materials in this area.

“Eco-tourism” emphasizes on both “Environment Protection” and “Environmental Balance.” The understanding of ecology, education, care and protection of ecology are the keys and fundamentals of “eco-tourism.”

“Tourism Selangor is honoured and proud to be a part of the very first book of its kind in Selangor.  We are supportive of eco-tourism and have been promoting places that are eco-friendly.  The book brings Selangor’s best eco attractions to the masses and educates the public on ecology and how to protect it is a great tool to promote eco tourism in the country,” Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd. Din, General Manager, Tourism Selangor.

Initiated under the watchful guidance of Mr. Goh Yong Chuan, an ecologist, Choong Baiqi – a social educator, together with TY Production House, and supported by Selangor Tourism Sdn. Bhd., this special book of “Terokai Kehijauan Selangor” will be available in all major bookstores.  This book is fully illustrated focusing on the ecology of Selangor state with actual field experiences and exploration published in both Chinese and Malay versions.  The English version is due to be published in January 2017.
