NISHIKI MARKET @ KYOTO

Nishiki Market (錦市場, Nishiki Ichiba) is a narrow, five block long shopping street lined by more than one hundred shops and restaurants. The restaurant spanning with hundreds of shops and eateries that operating for many years can be found here. The first fish shop opening in 1310.

Naming as the “Kyoto Kitchen” ; you will find specialist stalls bustling in activity and with fascinating displays of artisan produce and fresh local bounty; from glistening fresh seafood pristinely displayed to every imaginable dried fish and seafood, an extraordinary kaleidoscope of pickled vegetables and handmade sweets, and all the seasonal foods and specialties that the historical Kyoto Kaiseki-ryōri cuisine is renowned.

The street is filled up with loads of the delicious food and many things to shop. From some nice delighting tibits, sweets, as well as souveniers are all simply attractive. Everything comes lovely and I am pampered with the beautiful items.

Food is not the only thing for sale: utensils, dishes, clothing and even geta (sandals) and tabi are also available. Almost all the necessities of daily life can be found along this narrow stretch. Restaurants, noodle shops and tea and coffee houses also provide nourishment for the hungry.
The Nishiki Market street runs parallel to Shijo Avenue, one block north of Shijo Avenue. It can be reached on foot in less than five minutes from Shijo Station on the Karasuma Subway Line (4 minutes, 210 yen from Kyoto Station) or Karasuma or Kawaramachi Stations on the Hankyu Line.
