An Elegant Japanese Dining Experience at Genji

January 12, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

Dining at Genji is a quiet celebration of Japanese craftsmanship, where precision, freshness and balance come together in every dish. The experience feels refined yet comforting — ideal for both seasoned Japanese food lovers and families dining together.

Nama Uni to Zuwaigani Kani Miso Ae

This dish sets the tone beautifully. Fresh sea urchin is paired with steamed snow crab meat, gently coated in rich crab tomalley (kani miso). The result is indulgent yet restrained — creamy, briny and deeply umami. Each spoonful delivers oceanic sweetness balanced by the savoury depth of the miso.

Hotate Gai Uni Yaki

The baked scallop is tender and sweet, finished with a luxurious topping of sea urchin. The scallop retains its natural juiciness, while the uni adds richness without overwhelming the dish. It is simple, elegant and expertly executed.

Ginmatsu Nitsuke

The simmered snow fish is cooked to perfection, its flesh soft and silky. Simmered gently in a sweet dashi blended with soy sauce, the dish showcases classic Japanese restraint — comforting, aromatic and deeply satisfying without heaviness.

Sushi Selection (3 kinds)

The sushi course is a highlight. Hand-moulded with care and served alongside a hearty miso soup, each piece reflects the chef’s respect for freshness and technique. We particularly enjoyed:

Sea urchin maki, clean and creamy

Kampachi topped with caviar, offering delicate sweetness with briny pops

Toro, rich and buttery, melting effortlessly on the palate

Every piece was impeccably fresh, well-balanced and thoughtfully prepared.

 Kids’ Bento Set

Genji also excels at family-friendly dining. The kids’ bento set is impressive both in presentation and portion. Packed with tempura, onigiri, chicken katsu, and maki, it is served alongside comforting udon and fresh fruits. It is filling, well-rounded and clearly designed with care — a big hit with younger diners.

🍡 Dessert Finale

The meal concludes on a light, refreshing note with a dessert assortment of fresh fruits, mochi, and yukimi daifuku — delicate mochi buns filled with ice cream. It is a gentle, satisfying way to cleanse the palate after such a flavourful meal.

Overall Impression

Genji delivers a dining experience rooted in authenticity, freshness and quiet luxury. From delicate appetisers to comforting mains and thoughtful family options, the meal flows effortlessly and leaves a lasting impression. It is the kind of Japanese dining that feels polished yet heartfelt — a place worth returning to.
