The Millen Penang, Autograph Collection Celebrates Grand Opening,Redefining Luxury with Heritage and Modern Sophistication

October 3, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

The Millen, the first Autograph Collection hotel in Penang, officially launched today, marking a new milestone in the state’s thriving hospitality landscape. This landmark has been reimagined into a refined destination where colonial heritage and modern sophistication meet, redefining luxury living for today’s traveller.

The Millen was created with a clear ambition to offer “A Different Penang.” More than a place to stay, it is designed to reflect the island’s unique character, its rich heritage, quiet elegance and dynamic future. Nestled along the historic Millionaire’s Row, the 146-room hotel reinterprets the grandeur of a bygone era while embracing the pulse of today.

Each room, starting at a spacious 56m², offers panoramic views of the Andaman Sea or George Town’s cityscape. Bespoke touches include motion-sensor lighting, Nespresso Vertuo machines, Whittard of Chelsea teas, organic nutmeg-infused amenities and custom designed sofas. Suites range from the Colonial and Straits Lofts to the Sterling and Silver Suites, with the latter ranking among Penang’s largest two-bedroom Presidential Suites at 156m².

Beyond guestrooms, The Millen features premier event facilities, including the Upperton Hall Grand Ballroom with one of the island’s longest LED screens measuring 31m by 2m, intimate BOSE-equipped boardrooms and versatile venues for weddings, conferences, and milestone celebrations.

Dining at The Millen is equally distinctive with Good Society, an elegant tea lounge by day and bar by night; Lili, presenting modern Malaysian cuisine crafted with responsibly sourced ingredients; and Blacklinen, a specialty grill concept for the discerning palate. Guests seeking relaxation can retreat to Nut&Meg Spa, inspired by Penang’s spice heritage, or enjoy the 24-hour fitness centre and saltwater glass-walled infinity pool on Level 9.

Art and design flow through every corner of the hotel with curated works by local and international artists transforming The Millen into a living gallery that balances heritage with elegance and storytelling.

At the launch ceremony, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, said, “It is a great honour to celebrate the grand opening of The Millen, the first Autograph Collection hotel in Penang. This remarkable property blends colonial heritage, sophistication and a fresh vision for our state. The Millen embodies the very spirit of Penang, connecting the charm of the past with the energy of the present.”

Dato’ Sean H’ng Chun Hsiang, Chief Executive Officer of HNG Capital, said, “The opening of The Millen reflects our unwavering commitment to redefining luxury hospitality while honouring Penang’s heritage. More than just a hotel, The Millen supports local artisans, talents and businesses, ensuring that tourism continues to create value for the community.”

Mr George Varughese, Market Vice President at Marriott, Malaysia, added, “As the world embraces travel again, I have no doubt that The Millen will inspire guests from near and far to discover Penang in new and meaningful ways. This is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the island, for our partners, and for everyone who will walk through these doors.”

HNG Capital Sdn Bhd acquired the hotel building in 2016. For many years, it was known as The Northam All Suite Hotel, once regarded as one of Penang’s finest luxury hotels. In 2020, the Group embarked on a complete transformation through a major renovation and rebranding exercise. After five years of careful planning and resilience, The Millen quietly welcomed its first guests on 3rd February 2025 and today proudly opens its doors to the world.

Since its soft opening, The Millen has already received the Best Luxury Hotel Award in The Gold List 2025 by IM First Class. This recognition affirms its commitment to world-class hospitality while remaining true to the island’s cultural soul.

The Millen is part of Autograph Collection Hotels, a curated portfolio of independent hotels within the Marriott Bonvoy programme. Members can earn and redeem points and enjoy personalised, contactless services through the Marriott Bonvoy app.

From storied guestrooms and progressive dining to curated art and cultural nods, The Millen invites travellers to forge a meaningful connection with Penang, a destination rich in history, flavour, and charm.
