A Taste of Tradition: Celebrate Dragon Boat Festival with Authentic Bak Chang at Resorts World Genting

April 23, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

As the fifth day of the fifth lunar month approaches, Resorts World Genting invites guests to embrace the rich traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival with an exquisite selection of handcrafted Bak Chang — glutinous rice dumplings steeped in heritage, flavour, and symbolism. Known in Chinese as Duan Wu Jie, the festival falls on 31 May 2025, and is one of the most culturally significant celebrations on the Chinese calendar, symbolising unity, prosperity, and remembrance.

To mark the occasion, from 15 April to 31 May 2025, Resorts World Genting presents a curated range of artisanal Bak Chang, each crafted with premium ingredients and a deep respect for culinary tradition. Carefully wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed to perfection, these dumplings are a nostalgic nod to ancestral customs while offering bold, creative reinterpretations for modern palates.

A Symphony of Flavours: Five Distinct Bak Chang Creations

This year’s festive offerings feature five distinctive varieties, thoughtfully prepared to cater to diverse tastes — from savoury and nutty to rich and aromatic.

Mui Choy Bak Chang – A savoury masterpiece, this dumpling brings together preserved mustard greens, peanuts, chestnuts, tender pork belly, and black mushrooms for a rich, layered flavour profile that satisfies with every bite.

Black Eye Peas Bak Chang – Earthy and hearty, this variation pairs black eye peas with pork belly, chestnuts, salted egg yolk, and black mushrooms, delivering a robust and satisfying taste grounded in traditional favourites.

Tian Bah Bak Chang – A standout creation for the season, this dumpling features glutinous rice infused with fragrant coconut milk, giving it a creamy texture and delicate aroma that adds a delightful twist to the classic.

Nyonya Bak Chang – A celebration of Peranakan culinary heritage, this version combines minced pork, winter melon cubes, black mushrooms, chili paste, and a blend of Nyonya spices — including turmeric and butterfly pea flower — for a mildly spicy, sweet, and savoury balance.

Crystal Bak Chang – For those who appreciate the purity of tradition, this simpler dumpling highlights the comforting texture and subtle flavour of glutinous rice, making it a gentle yet satisfying option for any palate.

These festive delicacies will be available at selected dining outlets throughout Resorts World Genting, including Lau Di Fang at Highlands Hotel, Hainan Kitchen Express, Malaysian Food Street at SkyAvenue, and Grand Cha Chaan Teng.

Festive Promotions to Delight

Adding even more reason to celebrate, Genting Rewards Card Members can enjoy an exclusive 15% discount with a minimum purchase of three (3) Bak Chang. For a limited time, guests who purchase either the Black Eye Peas Bak Chang or the Tian Bah Bak Chang will also receive a complimentary Tie Guan Yin tea bag, redeemable at any Flavours of Genting kiosk — the perfect accompaniment to enhance the dumpling experience.

Terms and conditions apply. Promotions are not valid with other ongoing offers.

This Dragon Boat Festival, gather your loved ones and savour the warmth of tradition with these thoughtfully crafted Bak Chang at Resorts World Genting. Whether shared at the table or gifted as tokens of celebration, these dumplings promise to bring joy, nostalgia, and a taste of heritage to your festive moments.
