“Nestlé Malaysia Spearheading Greener Communities through Recycling”

June 2, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

In the spirit of
positively contributing to communities during the festive season, Nestlé
Malaysia aimed to inculcate greener habits among Malaysians through its ‘Let’s
Recycle for Charity’ campaign. Through this campaign, the Company rallied
Malaysians to improve their recycling by pledging to donate a total of RM20,000
in duit raya to support those in need, when a minimum of 300 tonnes of
recyclables is collected.

Leveraging Nestlé
Malaysia’s existing Door-to-Door Recycling Programme (D2D) and Strata Recycling
Programme which is the Company’s voluntary Extended Producer Responsibility
(EPR) initiative, the ‘Let’s Recycle for Charity’ campaign targeted households
in Klang Valley covering a total of 70,000 households throughout the duration
of the campaign. Running from 15 April to 31 May 2022, the campaign saw a total
of 342 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) materials collected.

Having successfully
achieved its target, the Company presented the duit raya along with
product hampers to two homes nominated by the participating residents which are
Pusat Jagaan Sri Mesra in Ampang, Selangor and Rumah KIDS in Subang Jaya, with
each home receiving RM10,000 in cash and a year’s worth of supply of Nestlé
products. This will go towards upkeep of the homes and ensuring nutritional and
daily needs are met, such as adult diapers and medication.

Dato’ Adnan Pawanteh,
Executive Director, Group Corporate Affairs of Nestlé Malaysia said,
“Generosity and charity is central to the spirit of the Raya festivities. With
that in mind, we wanted to provide Malaysians with a platform to give back to
the community during the recent Ramadan and Raya season. We are truly heartened
by the positive response to our campaign and deeply grateful to the many Malaysians
who were willing to adopt greener habits to support those in need.”

“More importantly,
this is also part of our drive to tackle plastic waste in shaping a waste-free
future. Engaging and educating the public on recycling is key to our efforts,
and this campaign presented an excellent opportunity to inculcate good recycling
habits for a more sustainable future. Since its inception in 2020, we have
collected over 2,000 tonnes of DMR through our D2D recycling programme covering
over 70,000 households throughout Klang Valley, and we aim to reach 100,000
households by year end. In conjunction with the festivities, we also provided
relevant recycling tips for the residents such recycling kuih raya
containers, amongst others.”

Nestlé Malaysia’s
recycling programmes are supported by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ),
Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Alam
Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES), KPT Recycle Sdn Bhd and Tetra Pak
Malaysia.
