A touch of creativity and quirk brings out the fun in daily products, courtesy of HKTDC DG Studio (Hong Kong)

February 23, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

Besides being a bustling hub for shopping and the source country for highly addictive tv dramas, Hong Kong is the birthplace to many homegrown brands and innovative lifestyle products. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is a statutory body dedi-cated to promoting products and services from Hong Kong in the international arena.  The DG Studio initiative brings trendy gifts and premiums from Hong Kong to shoppers in Ma-laysia.  Twelve outstanding brands will be featured in 1 Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing LG Floor Highstreet) from 20th to 24th February and Da Men Mall (LGB1, LG Floor) from 20th to 26th February.

The twelve DG Studio’s brands are Artiart, Cardhoda, Eco Concepts, Hoobbe, Hyone, Kilo-vest, Konstar, MH Blocks, Paris Garden, SOAP Studio, Tea Lab and Team Green. These twelve brands specialize in specific lifestyle products, usually offered as personal or corpo-rate gifts and premiums. What makes these products different is its creative, trendy and sometimes quirky edge it takes on daily consumer products. And in here, one can get live view of all the great products

Artiart is an innovative design household products brand that produces home wares, drink wares and business-related items with a creative, quirky fun and colourful take. Its AR Ice-berg Suction Cup, with its grip bottom, and 100% leak proof Elegance Suction Bottle is heaven-sent for accident-prone individuals and are the company’s best sellers.

Konstar specialises in small household appliances. Its design innovation simplifies how time-consuming household chores are done. 4 of its products have since been awarded the RedDot Design awards. “I still can’t get over how fast it took for me to peel an apple with the Super Apple Peeler. It does in practically seconds what usually takes many minutes to do. The Super Apple Peeler received the reddot award 2014 honorable mention. The Salad Master which clinched the reddot award 2014 is equally genius. I will not go back to conventional methods!” said TV Host/Personality Dahlia Shazwan who demonstrated the products at the event.

“For the environmentally conscious, Team Green’s eco-friendly and bio-degradable de-signer puzzles are made from ethically-sourced wood for gift-giving with a conscience.” said Eyka Farhanna, a popular Malaysian actress who was at the event while showcasing prod-ucts from the brand. Its wooden 3D Ferris Wheeler, Music Box and Eiffel Tower puzzles are quite a sight to behold and provide hours of entertainment for the receiver of these unique gifts.

For the eco-warrior, Eco Concepts bio-degradable cups and creative mugs made from 100% corn husks are attractive, innovative and fun. Its products are testimony that going green does not have to be boring.

While about being green, Paris Garden’s home gardening kits allow novice gardeners to grow their own herbs, fruits, vegetables and flowers from home. Anyone can have green thumbs with the easy to follow step-by-step guide included in the gardening kits. The brand’s herb growing kits are especially popular with aspiring chefs hoping to keep a herb garden.

For the ultra-discerning hostess, Hoobbe’s household products are creatively and cleverly designed to make excellent conversation starters when hosting guests at home. Forever injected with a dash of quirk and fun, its Wooly Pins Pushpin, Floaty Duck Salt & Pepper Shaker, Right Cake Measuring Cups and Thanks Giving Salad Server are bound to put arouse interest and raise smiles.

Those who enjoy the finer things in life, Tea Lab, as its name suggests indulges in all thing’s tea. Tea lovers will find the process of brewing a cup of tea more fun with the brand’s creative tea infusers and tea making accessories. Its unique tea scoop and infuser are firm favourites among the tea drinking society.

Tech-enthusiasts will love Hyone’s range of products. It markets smart and stylish design solutions for all occasions, with its focus on mobile phone gadgets and electronic accesso-ries. Its Chic Crystal Ring that attaches to mobile phones to serve as a phone stand and fall proof Stand Firm Cup are best sellers. “Hyone’s Mini Selfie Stick with bluetooth remote and mini tripod is a super useful for Instagram personalities like me.’ said, Venice Min a social media influencer.

The tech-savvy would also love Cardhoda’s range of card protector wallet and name card holders. Its aluminum case prevents malicious parties from unscrupulously reading cards containing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Near Field Communication (NFD) chips for fraudulent activities.

For the young at heart, MH Blocks are micro-sized construction brick toys to indulge the inner-child. Its miniature version of the classic HK Kowloon Bus and HK Cross Harbour Fer-ry are popularly purchased as uniquely Hong Kong gifts.

SOAP Studio’s collaboration with famous artist b.wing’s adorable representation of familiar superhero characters such as Wonder Woman and Batman in its gift products and collec-tors’ items are sure to warm the hearts of superhero fans and make them go “Awwww…”.

For those that seek a unique twist in daily items, Kilovest makes various products, like watches, bags and passport holders, all in the ever durable and versatile silicone material.

“The products from the 12 brands under DG Studio are truly interesting. I am glad to be as-sociated with these names and I am sure that Malaysians who value creativity and interac-tive quality products, made well with good material and workmanship would value what we have to offer.” said Hoh Jee Eng, Director, Malaysia, HKTDC.
