A one-night-only Whisky Pairing Dinner featuring treasured Cantonese delicacies and rare whiskies will be hosted by Hua Ting Restaurant and The Writing Club on Friday, 25 May 2018.
Taking diners on a tread between two worlds, experience Masterchef Lap Fai’s exquisitely-crafted six-course menu matched with The Writing Club’s best-kept secrets – rare whisky expressions handpicked to elevate each creation. The epicurean experience is limited to 20 guests and will take place in Hua Ting Chairman’s Room, the grandest of seven private dining spaces, with its own dedicated entrance.
Exquisite, premium produce lies at the heart of the six-course dinner, thoughtfully curated by award-winning Chef Fai. Deftly executed, the creations are focused on bringing the natural exalted flavours of the ingredients to the fore; cleverly contrasting and balancing the savoury, sweet, sour and umami tastes of the Cantonese delicacies with the single malt’s richness and complexity.
“Whisky is a beautiful yet complex spirit, which makes it fun to work with. The curated dishes are born out of several experimentations, where we took into consideration the ingredients used and flavour profile, ensuring that both food and whisky elements complement, and not dominate over the other,” shares Chef Lap Fai.
Appreciate the intriguing art of pairing in noteworthy highlights including Crispy Suckling Pig, Glutinous Rice and Wild Mushrooms with Glenmorangie 10 Year Old; and Pan-seared Japanese Wagyu Beef and Rock Salt with Glendronach 12 Year Old. The gastronomic synergy shines through in another stand-out: Braised Superior Shark’s Fin, Crab Claw and Superior Duck Sauce with Knockando 12 Year Old.
Finding harmony with the flavours of Hua Ting is The Writing Club’s private collection of rare and prized bottlings that will excite whisky enthusiasts.
“The selected whiskies may sound familiar to those who enjoy their drams, however these are not your usual expressions that can be found in liquor stores or bars today,” comments Tan Soo San, founder of The Writing Club. “These whiskies are produced in the 80s and bottled for circulation in the 90s. The style of production is very different from those available today and their dedicated yet delicious flavours is the reason they are picked for pairing with Hua Ting’s fine cuisine,” adds Soo San.
Founded by husband-and-wife team, Tan Soo San and Sherin Ong, The Writing Club is borne out of the love for good company and a passion for pursuing wonderful drams from around the world.
