Editor Picks: Georgetown 1 Day Makan Trip from the Locals

Joez Coconut Jelly
Cool down with the hot weather in Penang. Try the Joez Coconut Jelly is a rather messy place with coconuts all over, which lends to the authenticity of being in Penang. They have a few tables in the shop so you can eat the coconut jelly on the spotThe coconut was simply fresh and nice. Not too sweet, it is made of jelly and you and have the cooling Jelly Coconut which is really a delighting moment in hot sunny day. The coconut jelly is preservative free, and can be kept for a week if properly stored chilled.

Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih @ Chulia Street
I am a big fans of Nyonya Kuih as well as Nasi Kunyit too. Pop to the little alley of Jalan Masjid, off Chulia Street, the 60 year old- Kuih Factory had a minor refurbishment recently, turning a corner of the place into a cozy, presentable “canteen”.They have a variety delights to choose from where you can try the variety of kueh which includes kuih talam, kuih muka, Kuih Lapis and many more is available. What I love the most about the kueh is they are freshly made and no preservative is added. The sweetness of the kueh is also toned down but yet furnished with the aromatic taste of the kueh. Enjoy their Asam Laksa, Nasi Ulam and even Nasi Kunyit which is very good.

Address:
Jalan Masjid (Off Chulia Street),
10200, Georgetown, Penang.

Mee Sotong  @ Padang Kota Lama Food Court
The stall is located within the food court directly next to Fort Cornwallis, a stone’s throw away from Penang Jetty. Located inside the food court; you will assured to see lining ups in ordering the Mee Sotong and sometimes you need to take your noodles on your own too. We had ordered a Mee Sotong and another is the Mee Rebus. Mee Sotong here is not the dry version but it served very wet, and comes with your usual mee goreng ingredients, but with plenty of squid in it. The mee sotong comes simply spicy but it is so good which I give two thumbs up.Ends your meal there with a cup of cooling coconut shake

Dim Sum, Asam Laksa, Mee Goreng @ Padang Brown (next to Esso Petrol Station)
One place which I never say no is the Padang Brown Dim Sum, Asam Laksa and Mee Goreng. That’s my heaven whenever I am there. Not those in the food court but they are just next to the Esso Petrol Station. Usually, you will spot the stall starts opening at around 3 pm but I always be there around 4 pm where most of them are fully open at that time.

Location:
Road side, @ Padang Brown along Jalan Dato Keramat
(Opposite Convent Dato Keramat)
