MOH TENG PHEOW NYONYA KOAY @ CHULIA STREET

MO TENG NYONYA KUIH

MO TENG NYONYA KUIH

One of the famous old school Nyonya Kuih place, Moh Teng Pheow had captured my attention where they are famed for its Nyonya Kuih. Located in the hidden alley of Jalan Masjid, off Chulia Street, the 60 year old- Kuih Factory had a minor refurbishment recently, turning a corner of the place into a cozy, presentable “canteen”. Don’t expects the elegant setting!

Walking into the shop, you will find the shop opens directly into his kitchen filled with large copper pots, woks and all sorts of implements to make Nyonya kueh. It is such a great experience to walk over and to their long old houses with their sitting place along the alley. MO TENG NYONYA KUIH
They have a variety delights to choose from where you can try the variety of kueh which includes kuih talam, kuih muka, Kuih Lapis and many more is available. What I love the most about the kueh is they are freshly made and no preservative is added. The sweetness of the kueh is also toned down but yet furnished with the aromatic taste of the kueh. Loving it so much !. The kueh are priced at RM 0.50 per piece

Asides from the kueh, they have some local delights to go with like Asam Laksa, Nasi Ulam and even Nasi Kunyit. We had the Nasi Kunyit which is indeed a double thumbs up. The aromatic sticky rice with the fragrance of the rice combined with the creamy coconut based chicken curry. Each mouthful is sinfully good and it brings back the olden days where we enjoy the Nasi Ulam.

For those who are looking for some snacks in the afternoon or even buy back some local Penang delicacies, hop to Moh Teng Pheow to try their Nyonya Kuih. It is definitely a hidden jewel to go for.
