MAMA SAN @ KLCC

February 18, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Mama San Kuala Lumpur, the third restaurant to open after Bali and Hong Kong, is located in Kuala Lumpur’s prime location – Lot G46, Ground Level, Suria KLCC.
Being a street food enthusiast, Chef Meyrick manifests his in-depth research of traditional recipes and culinary heritage during his countless travels throughout Asia. From collecting spices, experiencing flavours and textures of Asian food, Chef Meyrick marries these cooking styles that are now synonymous with his reputation; a street food chef.
The new restaurant is influenced by the design concept of the ambiance of colonial times in Shanghai during the 1920s. The walls are graced with a travelogue of old style photographs and retro-inspired mural wallpaper.
The restaurant is the sixth venture under Will Meyrick’s helm. The chef is a restaurateur, writer, entrepreneur , a judge on Top Chef Indonesia and a host of Asian Food Channel’s Back to the Street Jakarta. Accompanying Will is his long term Thai partner in crime; Palm Amatawet. “We’ve both fallen in love with travelling, finding authentic recipes and the story within a dish.” Will explained. The two chefs explore villages and street food stalls from India to Indonesia, Myanmar to Malaysia and Vietnam to Thailand. The passion is unending.
Soft Shell Crab Rujuk Salad (RM 35)
We started off with the starter which is amazingly good. The Soft Shell Crab Rujuk Salad that serves together with the Green mango rose apple mint peanuts and tamarind chili sauce (RM 35) . This is where every mouthful is perfectly good with the crispy bites of the soft shell crab. I love the sauce so much.
Crispy Sotong with chilli jam ginger flower lemongrass and honey(RM 38)
We can’t resist the awesome dish. The squid  is well deep fried till perfection and served together with the lovely sauce which is the chili jam ginger with the flower lemongrass and honey. Perfectly awesome!
Mama San Fish Curry with okra tomato tamarind and fish curry powder (RM68)
In Mama San, no one can miss their fish curry. Not to the spicier version, the taste is pretty mild in spiciness but you can taste the flavourful aromatic blend of curry in it. The taste is perfectly awesome.
Red Curry BBQ duck with lychee baby corn tomatoes Thai Basil Pea and Apple Egg plant(RM 50)
This is another favorites of mine. The tender juicy duck with no gammy smell comes simply good with the aromatic taste of curry in it. What surprise me the most is the juicy lychee in it.
Red Dragon (RM 28)
Beetroot garden apple ginger juice
Classic Energizer  (RM 28)
Carrot Green Apple Ginger Juice
