TRADITIONAL INDULGENCE INFUSED WITH A TASTE OF MODERNITY – WAN HAO CHINESE RESTAURANT CELEBRATES THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL WITH RICE DUMPLINGS THAT ARE SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE

June 4, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

Call it bak chang, zong zi or rice dumpling – this pyramid of glutinous rice is eaten during Dragon Boat Festival or Duan Wu Jie to honor Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet known for his patriotism in 278 BC.

This year, the award-winning Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is tantalising the palate of aficionados with four mouthwatering, handmade rice dumplings that are braised for at least six hours by Dim Sum maestro Loh Kah Poh. From our signature and ever-popular Pork & Salted Egg to the novel Black Truffle with Pork Belly & Dried Scallops, as well as Spicy Sambal and the Vegetarian 5-Grain rice dumpling – there will be a flavor that one will fancy.

Making its debut is the Black Truffle with Pork Belly & Dried Scallops rice dumpling (黑松露瑶柱鲜肉粽) – the epitome of goodness. Known as the Diamond of the culinary world for its unique and distinctive aroma, this exotic ingredient cleverly complements the top grade glutinous rice, generously stuffed with perfectly braised succulent pork belly and the finest Japanese dried scallops – you will find yourself savouring every bite of this rice dumpling even to the last succulent morsel.

Back by popular demand, loyal fans of the Cantonese-style Signature Pork & Salted Egg rice dumpling (蛋黄咸肉粽) can sink their teeth into the all-time favourite combination of luscious premium pork belly steeped in secret marinade, perfectly salted egg yolk, mushrooms, black beans and chestnuts intricately wrapped in flavoursome glutinous rice. This winning combination of traditional Chinese delicacies yield a well-balanced medley of taste and textures, while the wrapping of pandan leaves enable the rice to absorb the natural fragrance of the juicy pork and leaves, emitting a divine aroma that will definitely whet the appetite.

For those who love to fire up their taste buds with an intense and spicy experience, the Spicy Sambal rice dumpling (参巴猪肉粽) is a must try – an amalgamation of chewy, top quality glutinous rice, premier pork belly, onion, garlic and a special home-made sauce of dried shrimps. Balancing the right level of spiciness for that gratifying kick without overpowering the richnessof the rice dumplings, every mouthful packs a powerful punch of heavenly aroma and local flavour, topped with a homely sense of nostalgia.

For health conscious aficionados who would like to indulge with less guilt, the vegetarian, wholesome 5-Grain rice dumpling (五谷素粽) is exquisitely crafted just for you! Encompassing a variety of multi-grain such as brown rice, oat, sorghum rice, barley, pearl rice as well as vegetarian Bak Kwah, carrot, black fungus, turnip, braised peanuts and cabbage, this rice dumpling is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamins and all that goodness!
