Du Jour @ The Hub: A Culinary Adventure in SS2, Petaling Jaya

May 30, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Located in the vibrant SS2 neighborhood, The Hub has become a go-to dining destination for many of us. With its diverse selection of food offerings, we recently decided to pay a visit to Du Jour at The Hub. Known for their incredible set meals, Du Jour promises a delightful culinary experience.

This time, they have introduced their Mix+Match Nyonya & All Day Dining set, which is perfect for two people at an affordable price of RM 158++. The set includes two bowls of fragrant Nasi Wangi and covers four courses, namely starters, rice, meat & seafood, and vegetables.

Starters & Appetizers

Mango Kerabu with Smoked Duck

To kick off our meal, we indulged in the delightful starters and appetizers. The menu offers a variety of options to tantalize our taste buds. We opted for the Gula Melaka Roast Chicken & Quinoa Salad, Mango Kerabu with Smoked Duck, and Vermicelli Spring Rolls with Crispy Soft Shell Crab (6 pcs). Our choice for the starters was the Mango Kerabu with Smoked Duck. This refreshing dish features young shredded mango, paired with crispy smoked duck skin, shallots, peanuts, dried shrimps, and a tangy lime vinaigrette. The combination of flavors in this appetizer was simply outstanding. The sweetness of the mango, the smokiness of the duck, and the zesty vinaigrette created a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and spicy notes that left us craving more.

Rice / Dough

Nasi Kerabu with Ulam & Torch Ginger Flower

One of the standout dishes at Du Jour is their Nasi Kerabu with Ulam & Torch Ginger Flower. This traditional Malay delicacy showcases the rich flavors and vibrant colors of Malaysian cuisine. If you are not fancy on Nasi Kerabu, you can opt for their Truffe & Umami Pasta Mushroom, or the Timeless Aglio Olio.

The Nasi Kerabu is a feast for the senses, starting with the blue pea flower rice. The rice is infused with the natural blue color of the butterfly pea flower, which not only gives it a visually stunning appearance but also adds a subtle floral fragrance. The rice is cooked to perfection, with each grain beautifully separate and fluffy. Accompanying the blue pea flower rice is an array of tantalizing accompaniments which includes the ayam percik. We love the tender and juicy chicken is generously coated with the fragrant sauce, creating a delightful combination of flavors.

Sides with it is the aubergine sambal is served alongside the Nasi Kerabu. This spicy condiment made from roasted eggplant and a blend of spices adds a fiery kick and depth of flavor to the dish. It complements the other components of the meal, creating a harmonious balance of tastes.

Meat & Seafood

Fish & Chips

If you’re dining with your kids at Du Jour, the English Fish & Chips from their Meat & Seafood Selection is a fantastic choice. This classic dish is sure to please both young and adult palates alike.

The English Fish & Chips at Du Jour features two generous fish fillets that are coated in a crispy and golden batter. The fish used is typically a white fish such as cod or haddock, known for its mild and flaky texture. The fillets are fried to perfection, ensuring a crunchy exterior while maintaining the tender and moist flesh inside. Accompanying the fish fillets are a bed of chips, which are thick-cut fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. These homemade chips are the perfect complement to the fish, providing a satisfying contrast in texture and a delightful side dish.

To enhance the flavors further, the dish is served with homemade tartar sauce and tomato sauce. The tartar sauce is a creamy and tangy condiment adding a refreshing and zesty element to the fish. The combination of crispy battered fish, flavorful chips, and delicious sauces creates a satisfying and comforting meal.

Vegetables

Sambal Petai with Ikan Bilis

As for their vegetables selection, you can choose from the Jiu Hu Char or the Sambal Petai with Ikan Bilis. The Sambal Petai with Ikan Bilis is a flavorful and satisfying option. This dish showcases the combination of petai (also known as stink beans), onions, chili paste, and crispy anchovies, creating a spicy and addictive culinary experience. When stir-fried with onions and chili paste, the petai absorbs the flavors and spices, resulting in a harmonious blend of heat and umami.

The dish also features crispy anchovies, or ikan bilis, which add a savory and crispy texture to the dish.  The Sambal Petai with Ikan Bilis is a spicy dish that offers a depth of flavors. The combination of petai, onions, chili paste, and crispy anchovies creates a balance between spiciness, bitterness, and umami. Whats more is it provides a satisfying kick for those who enjoy spicy food. Indulge in the crunchy petai, aromatic onions, and flavorful chili paste, and experience the addictive heat and flavors that this dish has to offer.

Curry Soft Shell Crab

The Curry Soft Sheel Crab  Soft Shell Crab Pasta is a must-try. This dish combines the richness of al-dente pasta with the delightful flavors of crispy soft shell crab.

The pasta is cooked to perfection, offering a firm yet tender texture that pairs beautifully with the accompanying sauce. The sauce is creamy, adding a luscious and velvety element to the dish. Its lightness allows the flavors to shine through without overpowering the other components.

The star of the dish is undoubtedly the deep-fried soft shell crab. The crab is expertly prepared, resulting in a crispy and golden exterior while retaining its succulent and delicate meat. With each bite, you’ll experience a delightful contrast between the crispy crab and the silky pasta, creating a symphony of textures.
