Celebrate this Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes from Starbucks Malaysia

September 10, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

The Mid-Autumn Festival is another important festival celebrated by Chinese families during the autumn full moon. The centuries old celebration also gives an opportunity for Chinese communities across Malaysia to reunite with friends and families and share food offerings, including mooncakes. This year, Starbucks continues the tradition by reimagining the traditional mooncake with its signature Starbucks espresso for Malaysians to delight their families this season.

This year, Starbucks introduces three new flavors and a returning favorite including:
• New! Expresso Chestnut – Wrapped in traditional Cantonese mooncake skin that has been infused with the rich flavors of Starbucks espresso coffee, this mooncake is filled with coffee-flavored lotus paste, with a delicate center of nutty chestnut mung bean filling.

• New! Coffee Mixed Nuts – The Mixed Nuts mooncake uses the Starbucks Signature espresso to create coffee-flavored mooncake skin with a filling of mixed nuts, caramel lotus and chewy dried fruit filling, which gives this mooncake a sweet and nutty texture that is full of goodness and crunch with every bite.

• New! Tiramisu – Inspired by the traditional Italian dessert, this perfectly wrapped coffee flavored mooncake is filled with coffee-flavored lotus paste and a delicate center of a unique and delectable cheese filling with the texture of mung bean paste. A must try for Tiramisu lovers!

• Returning Favorite! Green Tea Key Lime – This mooncake is made using premium green tea with lotus and key lime to create a juicy center. This unique creation is wrapped with an aromatic pastry made of Japanese matcha powder – a perfect combination of Japanese flair with a hint of refreshing citrus.

All flavors come packed in a box designed specifically for Starbucks Malaysia. The box incorporates the colors purple and gold which are both associated with wisdom and compassion and are symbolic of the night-sky of the Mid-Autumn festival. Meanwhile, the decorative Osmanthus flower signifies the blooming of this seasonal flower during this time of the year.  And lastly, the moon rabbit represents longevity and prosperity according to traditional Chinese folklore. All the elements form a circle to symbolize the full moon and family reunion during this auspicious season.

To make mid-autumn even more exciting, Starbucks has also launched its new Sailing to the Moon merchandise series that is inspired by the fullest and roundest moon of the year. With designs featuring the enchanting night sky, different faces of the moon, and the symbolic rabbits incorporated into various selections of water bottles, tumblers and mugs. Not only is the Starbucks Mid-Autumn Merchandise Collection 2019 a unique fashion statement, but also a great way for families to gift each other as a way of signaling good fortune for the upcoming year.

The Starbucks Mooncake 2019 will be priced at RM88, while the Starbucks Mid-Autumn Festival merchandise collection will start from RM58 and will be available at all Starbucks stores in Malaysia starting 12 August.
