MY CRYSTAL MUSEUM, GEORGETOWN: THE WORLD’S LARGEST CRYSTAL MUSEUM

May 21, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Something interesting happening in Penang. We spotted the World’s Largest Crystal Museum recently in Penang when we are staying at Lorong Baru. Located just next to the Sunway Hotel, the museum had captured my attention recently with a lot of different types of crystal selections.

These one-of-a-kind pieces have been created and perfected by nature and are now available for public viewing from 11.00am till 9.00pm daily. My Natural Crystal Gallery also has a retail section with a wide variety of natural crystal, gemstones, accessories and souvenirs.

What are Crystals?

Crystals are natural solid materials whereby the constituents are arranged in orderly geometrical patterns. To form, crystals are subjected to eons of extreme temperature, pressure, chemical conditions and the amount of space available. The crystal shapes and sizes are formed by the external expression of the mineral’s internal structure. Some even crystallize from watery environment while some are from molten rock during volcanic eruptions when lava cools rapidly. The presence of different chemicals causes the variety of colours to the crystal.

Crystals have been long treasured by mankind not only for its naturally unique beauty but also for its supposed healing and protective powers. They have been traditionally used by practically all cultures in healing therapies and also as decorative items.

In this Crystal Museum; they showcase over 2,000 pieces of natural exquisite crystals that were available in Malaysia, mostly found in Gunung Keriang, Kedah.

And it is indeed an eye opening where you can see the different formation of crystals. There are different types of shapes which resembles different things depending on your imagination. And in here , it is said that 95% of the crystals displayed in the museum were calcite crystals that were not processed but well conserved.

The entrance fee is RM20 for adults, RM10 for children and RM15 for senior citizens (over 60 year old) to all permanent residents, while for tourists, RM30 for adults, RM15 for children and RM20 for senior citizens
